PC Help Needed

Recommended Posts

I seem to have picked up some sort of adware bug, with pop ups coming thick and fast, ironically mostly selling anti adware software. I also cannot reset my home page on internet explorer as it keeps defaulting to blank.com.

Ive got Norton Antivirus and Firewall. Spybot and Ad-Aware SE as well as WinCleaner and CCleaner. Does anyone know of any other freebie adware killer software I can download.

Any advice on the Internet Explorer home page would be appreciated as well.

When I get Ad-ware which I can't get rid of, for example Aurora, I shoved it into Google and found that I needed to get another piece of software specifically for that ad-ware. Downloaded it, got rid of it.

Try that? Or if you give us more details I will look round for you.

spybot is good, as is microsofts anti-spyware program, a-squared trojan remover is also useful, bit of advice they tend to hide a file that installs it all once removed. So it is best to restart in safe mode then run all your spyware/virus programs there, it helps to get rid. (im speaking from experience BTW, had a shocking one not too long ago.)

Cheers all,

I do use Firefox most of the time.

I used to use AVG but Norton came free(?) with the PC.

The Ad Aware is software not the problem

Don't know if it's Aurora

Just trying a-squared trojan remover

I let you know how I get on.

Have a go at running in safe mode, you will probably find the scanners pick up much more that way.

yeah...thats what i was gonna suggest. Find out the location and name of the adware then run your pc in safe mode. Once logged in, just delete the files. however, i suggest moving them to a disk just in case they are the wrong files.

Have you also tried using a program called hijackthis? that will create a log of programs that run when windows starts etc. you can then go to a computer wizard forum thing (got a link of that smwhere) and they wil tell you more information! PM for the links etc and other info.
