Guest Posted 30 August 2012 Posted 30 August 2012 I enjoy the Arya parts - one of my favourites. but please Jon don't be dead. Rickon has been boring from the start but I guess something will happen. Sansa wasn't in the last book was she - that story was getting interesting too. Martin will die before ending this series. Only 200 pages to go... Damn you big book! I feel both happy and sad for you. When it's finished , it's finished.

We've had no insight into him for a whole 6 books, he might be relevant somehow but if he comes back now to play a serious part in the outcome (which I doubt due to his age) it will be very deus ex machinima.

Although I'm not sure Marsh et al will allow it. I also love the Arya bits, I just always enjoyed reading them, much more so than the Dorne ones. Assuming Jon is dead there are so many things still to resolve: Sam at the Citadel: what now, it was all Jon's idea. Where have Theon and Jayne gone if Bolton doesn't have them yet Stannis is 'dead'? Is Asha still with them? Who does Davos now 'work' for, will he side with Rickon? People here have been saying Rickon will go against Targaryan, but why, it was not the Targaryan's who wronged the Starks? And soooo many more unresolved questions... damn you GRRM! And when is the next book coming out!!?!?

Davos was cool but a bit lost. He lives for Stannis and has no loyalty (or reason to exist) without him. Stannis was a bore. Next book - who knows, he's not good at sticking to deadlines.

Lots of people had chapters but then died etc... Sansa will probably star a little Jaime is a character ripe for development Melisandre obviously has a role but I'm not much more interested in her than I am in Daenerys Asha will have a role Littlefinger - though he's a little too singular Flowers deserevs more I quite like dorne and the martells Bran clearly has a large role to play. North of the wall is crucial but I just can't accept it without Jon, Mance is interesting though Dog also deserves restitution.

While the author seems to have no qualms about killing main characters, there are a few characters that, at least it seems to me, killing them would be counter-productive to the story. He's spent too much time building up their character to suddenly kill them off, and the story seems to revolve around them. For me, these "unkillable" characters (up untill near the end of the last book anyway) are Tyrion, Arya, Jon, Deanerys and Bran. Any other character I would consider cannon fodder. Was debating Sansa, but I think even she may be expendable. If Jon died, who would tell the story of the Night's Watch? Melisandra has been narrator before, but I don't think she will be for a significant amount of time - she loses too much of her mystery when she's the narrator, in my opinion. Then again, the author will probably prove me wrong, and Jon will be dead after all
