Guest Posted 12 July 2012 Posted 12 July 2012 I have one question for those of you who have read them all. Do you believe that Jon Snow is dead and out of the rest of the story?
Guest Posted 12 July 2012 Posted 12 July 2012 We're not talking 50 shades of grey here. The books weren't hyped - maybe the TV series is but not the books. But if you want to read a fantastic series of books before the hype then read Steven Erikson's Malazan book of the Fallen - there are ten novels and they'll be the next big thing turned into a TV series if there is any justice.
Rincewind Posted 12 July 2012 Posted 12 July 2012 I can check if any on my Ebook list. Whos the author? Its justthere has been a lot on Tumblr as well. Tbh never heard of 50 shades until a thread was started on here. Now its all over Twitter and everywhere.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 13 July 2012 Posted 13 July 2012 Steven Who? Am on the 3rd book of the Song of Fire and Ice. I made the mistake of looking at a wiki because I was confused over who Reek was, but in my search stumbled over lots of other stuff I didn't want to know I'm wondering if I should take a break away from the series (got a load of Asimov's robot books to read) or not, it really depends on whether the series is complete or not, cos I don't want to get up-to-date only to find I've got to wait anyway! I also really want to go back and read Thomas Covenant, which I haven't read since my teens. I was fairly disturbed by the openning scenes of that story, but I find myself wondering how I might see them from the eyes of experience. If ever there was more an ANTI-hero than Covenant, then I don't know who they might be.
Guest Posted 13 July 2012 Posted 13 July 2012 There are still two more books that haven't been published. He's working on the first but if there is anything like the delay of the last two he may die before he finished them both. Very frustrating. Asimov, I know they're classics but I'm afraid they are also old. I'll never read him again - it'd be lke reading Clarke. Covenant was my favourite set of books for over 30 years. I too was disturbed with the rape but the world he created afterwards was incredible. The bloodguard and the giants simply fantastic. I've read the whole series many times over the years and I'm still disturbed by the rape. In fact I was going to read them again about 4 years ago but after starting didn't go on. His flowery writing is not to everyone's liking but his imagination was genius. I presume you've read the GAP series. More Sci-fi but truly wonderful. Steven Erikson
Trav Le Bleu Posted 13 July 2012 Posted 13 July 2012 I read the first Gap novel, but didn't get into it. Same as Perseus Spur by Julian May who I equally adore. Weird. Mordant's Need however, fantastic. I also never know if I like Gormenghast or not. read them twice and watched the BBC adaptation. There's no doubt Peake created a great world, but I'm still not sure I understand it (or even if you're meant to.)
Guest Posted 13 July 2012 Posted 13 July 2012 You should try Gap again. Each book looks at the stry from a different characters pov. At the end of the first you may think it's all pretty black and white but things can get turned around on their heads. After I've read this Ffforde series and the butcher novels I think I'll read Gap agin.
Phube Posted 13 July 2012 Posted 13 July 2012 Not looking at question... Currently on page 237 of book 5... will look and see if I can answer in a few weeks (hopefully!).

Haydos Posted 16 July 2012 Posted 16 July 2012 Yeah, I'm halfway through Dance With Dragons. I'll bump or something when I'm done
Guest Posted 16 July 2012 Posted 16 July 2012 in answer to the OP question - I very much doubt it I hope that you're right - but it clearly read that way didn't it?
danny. Posted 16 July 2012 Posted 16 July 2012 well Beric Dondarrion has 'died' about 5 times and thoros kept bringing him back, also Euron Greyjoy was saved by his red priest (forgot the name), so maybe Mel will fix Jon. She managed to switch up Mance and the Lord of Bones guy when burning him so sure she has similarly strong magic. Also one of the prologues was about a warg who died but lived on in one of his animals, so maybe if Jon is dead he can live on in Ghost? You never know with GRRM, it sounded like Arya was dead at the end of one chapter, and turns out she was just wounded. The end of the Jon chapter was weird all over. Also didn't it say "he didn't feel the 3rd and 4th stabs", which could mean there were no 3rd/4th so might not be mortally wounded. Guessing though! God I sound like a D&D nerd reading that back.
Guest Posted 16 July 2012 Posted 16 July 2012 You are. Put it in a spoiler so others don't know what we're talking about. good point about Beric and even Mance. It gives me hope.

Too late Again. You do of course realise the last sentence of the series will be, "Then Eddard woke up and it was all a dream!" Mostly a wet one.

I'm sorry - wasn't me though !!!! I really think that GRRM will die before finishing the last book and we'll all be feeling like sexually frustrated teenagers.
danny. Posted 16 July 2012 Posted 16 July 2012 Put it in a spoiler so others don't know what we're talking about. Sorry didn't know how to do that, guessed at the tag tho and seems to have worked. The title of the thread does say don't read if you haven't finished them all though??
FoxyPV Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 I don't think so although I think that it may be a better twist if it was true. I liked the reappearance of Varys at the end. I heard there was meant to be seven books but I can't see how he'll tie all the threads together even if both books are two parters.

It was one of the chapter endings that I was least expecting, I'll tell you that for free!! However, I've decided to accept he's dead. We all know George Martin isn't adverse to killing a main character! Also, what the **** is going on with Arya. I'm getting bored now. Go stab people with the pointy end again, that Arya was more interesting.
FoxyPV Posted 29 August 2012 Posted 29 August 2012 The whole Arya thing is really pissing me off as well although I think that her re-entry into Westeros will be to kill one of the Targaryens. I don't think she'll get to kill Cersei.
