Leicfox Posted 27 July 2012 Posted 27 July 2012 London 2012 has not had long to wait for its first world records, with the South Korean archery team setting two new landmarks at Lord's. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/olympics/19013793
Leicfox Posted 28 July 2012 Author Posted 28 July 2012 Cheers for that link StanSP very handy. LONDON (Reuters) - Dana Vollmer of the United States set the fastest qualifying time in the heats of the women's 100 metres butterfly on the opening day of the Olympic swimming competition on Saturday. The reigning world champion broke Inge de Bruijn's 12-year-old Olympic record of 56.61 when she sailed through her heat in 56.25 seconds, almost a second ahead of her nearest rival, China's Lu Ying (57.17). http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/womens-swimming-100m-butterfly-heat-6-results-102635529--spt.html
BoneDog Posted 30 July 2012 Posted 30 July 2012 Sure I saw two or three records go in the swimming over the past three days. Defo two went. Not seen todays swimming yet, watching it on BBC Sport later, they've got a great catch up section with all the different races split up on the video bar so you can pick what to watch and cut out all the waits between events. Is there a swimming thread? Hoping for a Tancock gold tonight but he's up against that 6 foot 8 bloke and a few other fast ones so it will be tough. He's had a great start in all the races I've seen him in though so :fc The swimming has been highly entertaining so far. So has the archery, especially the team events.
BoneDog Posted 2 August 2012 Posted 2 August 2012 Lu Xiaojun broke two world records last night in the mens 77kg weightlifting - the snatch WR (175kg) and the total WR (379kg). Shame he couldn't do the clean and jerk one aswell but that is massive for this weight category and hasn't been beat for about 10 years. It's a shame the other Chinese competitor injured himself early on. Would have made the final more exciting but he still got silver by lifting way below what he can do. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/olympics/19089698
BoneDog Posted 2 August 2012 Posted 2 August 2012 Rebecca Soni of USA broke the 200m breaststroke WR last night in the semi-final with 2.20.00. I reckon she's going to break it again tonight in the final. New WR tonight of 2.19.46 prediction. 7.40pm tonight on your Olympic channel. Or this link - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/2012/live-video - tune in at 7.30pm for the mens 50m freestyle semis. FAST
Trav Le Bleu Posted 2 August 2012 Posted 2 August 2012 The cycling team sprint world record went several times this evening. It also took a WR to beat Jamieson last night.
kiwifox6 Posted 9 August 2012 Posted 9 August 2012 why no mention of this? 6 seconds is quite a bit.... http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/olympics/rowing/7370005/Mens-pair-set-record-rowers-start-action
Amin Posted 9 August 2012 Posted 9 August 2012 David Rudisha broke his own world record in the 800m this evening, with most of his competitors setting PB times.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 10 August 2012 Posted 10 August 2012 Has anyone else been a bit disappointed how few WR have been broken in the atheletics this Olympics? I find myself slightly suspicious that it might have something to do with better anti-doping tests. Call me a cynic.

Some of the Women's WR times are quite frankly unreachable because of the doping in the 80's. As for the Men's events, a lot of the athletes have declined since Beijing or they are simply unfit/ recovering from injuries.
Jimothy Posted 10 August 2012 Posted 10 August 2012 David Rudisha broke his own world record in the 800m this evening, with most of his competitors setting PB times. Apparently the British guy who came last ran a time that would have won gold at the last 4 Olympics.
Guest shearfox Posted 10 August 2012 Posted 10 August 2012 Apparently the British guy who came last ran a time that would have won gold at the last 4 Olympics. Yep I heard that, great run from the Brit his PB that was. Just unfortunate to be in a very fast race.
