Matt Posted 13 July 2005 Posted 13 July 2005 A LIVERPOOL football fan hanged himself as his team trailed 3-0 to AC Milan in the Champions League final.Mark Houghton, 43, was found hanging by a belt from a hook in his kitchen at 9pm on May 25 when a defeat for the team looked a certainty. But Liverpool went on to win the final in a penalty shoot-out after three second-half goals. A Blackburn inquest heard Mark, of Darwen, Lancs, was depressed after losing his job as a forklift driver due to an industrial injury. Girlfriend Jacqueline Young said he had also been upset by the death of Liverpool legend Emlyn Hughes. But she added: “I honestly can’t think of a reason why he did this. “I thought we had a future.†Verdict: Suicide. I know it was purely down to the football by the sounds of it but it sounds like it was a factor, is it really worth it?! RIP
Hitesh Posted 13 July 2005 Posted 13 July 2005 RIP Thats really sad news. Although football is life to a lot of people it isnt worth killing yourself!
Libertine Posted 13 July 2005 Posted 13 July 2005 No, it is not worth it. Simple as that. However much you love football, it is still only a game.
john_lcfc Posted 13 July 2005 Posted 13 July 2005 why would someone do such a thing. i can never see any reason to commit suicide
Libertine Posted 13 July 2005 Posted 13 July 2005 Me neither, always look on the bright side etc etc, but it's not always that easy I suppose. Taking your life because of football though is ridiculous.
Hullfox Posted 13 July 2005 Posted 13 July 2005 He must feel like a right tool now. 137551 That's a stupid thing to say. If you've ever known anyone with serious problems as this guy had you wouldn't spout such rubbish. The Liverpool game was probably just one of many things happening in his life that were disturbing him.

LoneWolf Posted 14 July 2005 Posted 14 July 2005 you wouldnt feel like any thing. ibet this wasnt just due to them reasons, i bet he has his own personal ones too, what he didnt mention to any one... RIP Dude. + id feel a tool any way, if i was a portvale fan
CasinoGee Posted 14 July 2005 Posted 14 July 2005 I'd feel a tool if I thought Port Vale was all one word.
Guest Posted 14 July 2005 Posted 14 July 2005 The Liverpool game was probably just one of many things happening in his life that were disturbing him. 137609 That's what I was thinking. I don't think many people would understand just how low you'd have to be to commit suicide.
Ricey Posted 14 July 2005 Posted 14 July 2005 I'm sure the Liverpool game wasn't the main reason he commited suicide, it would of just been the thing that sent him over the edge in the heat of the moment. He lost his job and was in serious pain all the time from his injury.
shack Posted 14 July 2005 Posted 14 July 2005 It wasn't just the Liverpool game that lead to it, he had been unemployed for about 2 years and had an ilnees, he had also been threatening to kill himself for about a year. At least it's one less signing on scouser the tax payers have to pay for. I know I'll get flamed (as per), but I only have sypmathy for his family - not the selfish bloke who couldn't get through his problems.

Your generalisations are appalling.
