Right I'm looking at getting an ipad 2/ ipad HD I'm just wondering is it worth spending the extra £100 odd pounds for the latest one.

All I want it for is looking on the Internet, playing a few games and taking it on holiday with me. I'm not to fussed about using the camera and I won't be using it for e-mails or any business you.

The IPad 2 is brilliant. Faster than the old one.

Don't bother with the camera its still crap.

Make sure you get one with 3G so you can surf the net when not in a wifi area.

If you want to take it on holiday, then I guess you'll want to download movies and stuff to watch/play when you are away? You need a minimum of 16 gig to store all you need to.

Asda is the about the cheapest place I've seen them being sold. Starting at 395 I think.

Pay the extra if you can afford it, you'll get the old one and just want the new one anyway.

I don't have a smart phone and would have loved having 3G on my ipad rather than wifi! Unless Jon is about to impart some amazing knowledge i'm not aware of (easily done) i would go with 3G also!!

That was going to be my next question whether to get the 3G or WI-FI but you've just answered it for me. My current phone contract is with 3 and i could get an iPad 3 16gb for £29 a month with them do you think it would be worth doing that instead of buying it out-right?

if it is your only 3g then yes. If you have an iphone as well, then you can use the data connection from that, and not pay the contract. Mind you the #29 a month is quite attractive.

What you have is basically a cross between a smartphone without the mobility or functionality and a laptop without the power. Why anyone has ever bought an iPad, I really don't know. My boss bought the new one the day it came out, and the most impressive thing he could think to show me was its ability to zoom in on a PDF without blurring. Pretty sure I could do that on my Amiga.

I think Apple gets a lot of bad press especially from some in the geek world!! Yes they are expensive but shit they are good!!!

My problem was i heard alot of people dissing them for no good reason and got suckered into that way of thinking. Then i saw it for myself and realised the potential!!

now i love it! although i do spend a large amount of my time using to play FIFA!!

I guess it depends on which way round you want to do it mate.

Ive got an iPhone and an IPad (simply because I'm a typical bloke... Love gizmos) but some people I know don't want or cant afford contracts on both. Therefore, they have gone for an IPad with 3G on contract and bought themselves a simple, cheaper phone.

If I had one or the other I'd have just an iPad on contract and a cheap phone to simply make calls on. But that's just me.

You can do it on pretty much any mobile device with 3G and connect any wi-fi enabled device to the internet through 3g on your phone.

Although the Ipad isn't as functional as a laptop or the mobility of a phone, they are just easy. if you want to surf the net, you dont have to bother plugging in the laptop and waitingfor that to turn on, or squint trying to read things on the iphone, the ipad can just be left on 24/7 and within 5 seconds your surfing the net or playing games on a decent sized screen. although expensive, anyone who i have spoke to about them (myself included) didnt want one, or see the point in them, when they came out but now they wouldnt be without one.

Takes about 20 seconds for my laptop to start up, so you save 20 seconds about 1000 times over a couple of years. That's about five hours saved at a cost of about £500. So the time saved costs £100 per hour. Am I sold yet? No.

Because I am genuinely confused as to why anyone would ever buy one, and yet they are so popular, I don't understand why unless it's just blind consumerism
