The remains of a former champion boxer who had not been seen for several days were found by police at a house in Leicester, an inquest has heard.

The body of Shaun Cummins was discovered at the property in Marriott Road on 12 September after he was reported missing by community nurses.

The 45-year-old, who retired in 1995, was left paralysed after a motorcycle accident in 2004.

A man has been remanded in custody charged with his murder.

The inquest was told Mr Cummins, who was known as "The Guvnor", was identified from a photograph, followed by fingerprint ID.

Criminal investigation

The exact cause of his death is still unknown.

The inquest was opened and adjourned pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.

Thomas Dunkley, 28, of no fixed address, has been charged with murder.

At an earlier court hearing, on Tuesday, police said the body parts of the former WBA light-middleweight champion were found in a freezer at the house.

Dunkley, who appeared at Leicester Crown Court via videolink from prison, entered no plea.

He will next appear at the crown court on 25 September.

Been reading about this, seems to be some very strange forces at work.

Met him a few times at the ex-boxers meetings, seemed a nice guy, like most boxers not all there but heart in the right place.

What kind of a person kills and dismembers a man in a wheelchair I dont know.

Actually beat Steve Foster before Foster lost his title to Rob McCracken on that infamous Nigel Benn night, clearly a better boxer than his record showed.

RIP Shaun. :englandsmile4wf::beer:

Until the results of the post mortem, we don't know if he was murdered. ;)

Of course.

Out of interest, how else can you become dismembered in numerous places?

Also didn't realise you could charge someone with murder either unless you knew victim had been murdered, learn something new everyday.

If you don't know the cause of death, it does seem a bit presumptuous.

Just saying!

Na-night!

perhaps MattP is an expert Lisa . . . . . . .

The doors are locked, and the alarm is set.

I have no fear.

Not at all, I've not claimed to be..

I genuinely didn't know the Police could charge someone with a murder if it wasn't confirmed the victim had been murdered.

His head, legs and arms were found detached from each other, could be anything I suppose.

He could have died naturally and then been chopped up and popped in the freezer.
