I don't want to get too ahead of myself here but does anyone else get the feeling that Wesolowski is going to feature quite alot for us next season?

I get the feeling that Levein didn't actually realise how good a prospect he is and since seeing him in action over the past week or so probably feels abit silly for not recognising the midfield dynamo.

It's been common knowledge for quite a while that Weso is a star in the making, but it just seems odd that Levein hadn't ever mentioned him. I hope that Levein takes a good look at all the academy lads and gives them a chance to impress him.

Levi Porter and Louis Dodds should be knocking at his door aswell because Weso, Stearman and Sheehan are proof that experience means **** all. If your good enough, your old enough.

Looking forward to seeing Weso tonight, not seen him for about 6 months and it appears he's on form what with his performances in the Youth Championships and with Leicester.

Agree with you there Flair man!

These youth players want to play in the 1st team and so when you play them you will get 110% out of them. Therefore i think its good to have them in the squad. I do hope CL starts giving a few of them a chance.

However, we shouldnt get too carried away and you also have the risk of them burning out before the end of the season. Gradually bringing them in will best for both the induviduals and the team.

Can see CL prob playing him in the early rounds of the cups but don't think he will be a big match starter, although if he can do well tonight and next week then who knows

Yeah I can see that too. But he also has the ability to make Levein find it very hard to leave him out.

Things are looking bright, but i'm trying not to get carried away.

I don't get that feeling. Just because he wasn't shouting from the roof tops about how good he thought he was last season doesn't mean he hadn't seen him play or didn't know how good he was. Look back to the end of last season and I remember Chambo saying CL had spoken to him about how well he'd done last season and giving him encouragement. If you know how good one of your 15 year olds is then you'll know how good one of your players that has been playing in the reserves on quite a few occasions is.

Possibly, but Wesolowski was away alot in January and May/June time. He was also injured for about 2 months between when Levein took over and the end of last season so it wouldn't surprise if Levein didn't realise how good he was.

He's alread said he didn't realise Williams was that good a player till quite recently, it's nice to see him admit that.

I don't get the feeling CL is missing very much about what is going on at City. Wes seems to be the most promising of our youngsters with others making claims as well but before we get carried away let's remember the 5-1 defeat in Norway.

Bloody shameful that was and before anyone says it doesn't matter, it does. Defeats destroy confidence and defeat involving four headers suggests the coaches are still on their holidays as well.

No-one wants kids coming through more than me but they've obviously clearly got lots to learn yet (especially the defenders) and I hope we've got coaches good enough to teach em cos I'm not yet convinced.

Why? Because of our poor set pieces and delivery into the box last season and our inability to pass accurately and consistently out of defence to name three things. I read today how Morinho attends to every little detail about the opposition. Do we do that? It never looks like it to me.

Our defending from set pieces concerns me and I really can't fathom out why Levein can't sort this. I hope he does and does it quick because the blame will rest firmly with him as he's talked at length about stamping this out, yet it appears it's still a massive factor with Leicester defending. Early days yet though, let's see how they do tonight and against Adriano and Milan.

Weso can't be blamed for set pieces though, he's 5ft 5!!!!!!

Going off topic, does anyone else think that this Celtic friendly has come round too quickly? Normally the home pre-season friendly is played the week before the start of the season so the players are nearly ready and prepared but I don't think they're ready yet and it could give the home fans a false view of what next season's going to be like.

I think our coaching staff are very good but they're having to work with a new defence this season. I don't think they wanted to do too much work on defending set pieces until they had got all the defenders in that they wanted but it's taken longer than expected.

I suppose we should remember young Weso had nothing to do with the 5-1 loss , but was involved in the 5-1 win, the game that CL said had more energy and substance to any last year.It wasnt there in the second game! Possibly something to do with Weso. Bring him on for the fans tonight CL.

It's a good point. Gerrbrand only arrived last week, and I'm sure Levein will still bring draft in a left back. As RF said, set pieces are a major concern for us, even after the 3rd pre season game, albeit with a supposedly weakened team.

There was one point last season where our 11 of our previous 12 goals were conceded by set pieces, which was simply amazing. If only we can get that sorted, you can imagine we won't concede many goals next season.

If I was Levein and there hasn't been much preperation before tonight's game, i'd say ' go out there and really **** them up' Forget everything we've talked about, just go and rattle them, we'll get back to working on a few things tomorrow'

I think this game has come around too early, so i'm not too concerned if we aren't too hot tonight on a few things but I still expect us to ruffle a few feathers.

I did try to exempt Wes a bit by saying the "defenders especially" had a lot to learn but I don't really like the idea of saying Wes had nothing to do with it. He was in the squad as a subsitute that night, he wears the shirt and the sooner everyone accepts collective responsibility for victory/defeat the better, as I am sure he does.

Certainly agree with you that CL should play him against Celtic because he's the brightest light in a still dark tunnel at the moment.

I say dark because the Norway defeat emphasised another thing for me. If the defenders have an off day we just don't have enough marauding attackers to make sure play remains at the other end. The sooner we get some attackers the better.

We shouldn't be getting beaten 5-1 at beach football let alone in a competitive friendly and when I read of our prospective team for tonight I can't help but see the whole left flank being a major weakness.

Tiatto, great big heart but limited creative ability. Wilcox, I don't think so.

Sadly a team is only as strong as its weakest link.

One day I shall search this forum and find out we've signed some genuinely threatening attackers. It's already clear we won't go through this season winning 1-0 every week any more than we did last season (or the year before that).

Consequently we'll need goals to achieve anything and the guys we've got at the moment won't score enough of em, partly cos they won't get enough chances created for them. I hope I've said that loud and clear.

Width, invention, penetration. Sounds like a recipe for good sex but its exactly what City need to add just now. Wes seems to offer the only ray of hope for all three just now.

Yes I think it has come too early with it being such a glamour tie so early on in pre season. However, Celtic will be in a change period where people are uncertain of staying or going and GS will be trying to embed his new ideas into his troops. This all works in our favour as our lads will have had more time to gel and get to know one another. Even though we've played only 2 games - the whole trip to Norway would have helped the new guys settle in. GS has not had that and will definitely help us tonight.

As for CL's comment about Celtic being in a transitional period similar to us is complete rubbish. CL has had over 6 months with the majority of the players and had recruited half the team by the time pre season came. GS has not had anything like that so I personally think his comment is not true. CL really has an upper hand (albeit very slightly) in the sense he has brought his own men and the majority HAVE had time to settle in. The newer boys have also had a small period so i'm taking what CL says beforehand with a pinch of salt.

(Maybe its an easy excuse if we end up losing tonight...?

(Although I fancy our chances to be honest!!) :o)

I hope so. If the fans see effort and fitness then they should be quietly pleased at this stage of pre-season. If any of the players don't seem bothered and we get hammered then I think the fans have a right to be unhappy.

Thought the lads played well today and didn't embarass themselves at all. Things look ok for this stage of pre-season apart from our injury list. We're reallly going to have to be disciplined next season because we can't afford suspensions with the size of our squad. Feel for Wesolowski tonight. Opened a lot of people's eyes.

Guys we've had the same problem. John Kennedy, was disgracefully tackled and nearly had his career ended by Wolves' Ganea. He's been out for 2 years, he's still having operations from the last I heard. Sickening really and I do agree, a young player's career could be shattered here and he might never recover from this and end up playing for some poxy Division 2 or 3 team. I hope for the best of luck to him and agree that it was a stupid and clumsy challenge that has NO place what so ever in football. Athough, I do believe Leicester were very dirty tonight and the big bugger might have been biting for that! You can't blame Celtic, because we can't change what the clumsy bugger did and it's not our fault. I think out of us all Big Bobo will be feeling the worst for what he has done to the young player and all the stick wont help him from press and angry fans etc. This kind of thing happens all the time in football, and although how sad we feel, we have to deal with it. It also happened to our Henrik and he came back from it better than ever, winning the FIFA Gold Boot. So try and look on the bright side, although it isn't easy.

PS. We are all scum because one of our players decided to go in with a clumsy challenge. Is it Celtic's fault? No. It was probably Bobo caught up in the hype of things, not an excuse, but I think that's the matter and I don't agree at all with what he did. Everybody makes mistakes, this is life. This is coming from a 14 year old.

BTW, Would like to congratulate you on a great performance tonight. Momo Sylla looked very good in your team, suits your formation and style of play. Rab Douglas, have always felt quite sorry for him at Celtic. Decent in the ordinary games, not great with high balls. Can't cut it in big matches. very nervy and tends to make mistakes. Did it alot against our friendly neighbours. Did you buy Ulrik Laursen aswell? I know he'll do well and think we were daft to get rid of him. He did have alot of injury problems, but looked better than ever towards the end of last season. Think if it was you who signed him, he'll be a good full back, will do his job.

Cheers,

Connor (Celtic)

I remember when that happened. He was playing for Scotland wasn't he? What comes around goes around though. One day Balde will get clattered by someone bigger than him (can't think of anyone who is) and he'll know what it's like. Hopefully it doesn't happen to him because nobody deserves it.

Thracian, the lad actually came into the game well after we were done over. Not much a youngster can do about that. His dynamic performance in the first game lifted the whole team. They lacked that in the second game. CL finally realised that this lad is a dynamo.

I'm sure that young Weso would have felt the loss probably even more than the experienced players, as young lads would.

Anyway, what happened to him tonight was unfortunate.

But know this, that James is an extremely tough lad, as CL said.

I have no doubt that HE WILL get through this and come back even stronger.

This lad is special not only in the talent department but also physically and mentally.

I bet that by tomorrow he can't wait to get back out on the field.

Get well soon James and get at them !

I am an aberdeen and scotland fan.

I was at that scotland vs romania game when Kennedy got clattered by ganea. absolutely disgraceful challenge.

I seen the challenge by balde last nite, and there is only one thing to say.

BOBO BALDE is a f**king thug.

to be fair we cant use the "to do it to a 17yr old" argument...a footballer on the pitch is fit enough to give the tackles and fit enough to take them....although that wasnt a tackle you should get my point
