Parafox Posted 20 January 2013 Posted 20 January 2013 My Job... Operational Paramedic Team Leader. Responsible for staff as well as being a front line response. My salary... £32,500 incl shift allowances Is it fair... I don't complain Is it representative.. It's a national pay scale so yes. We won't get any substatntive increase this year and my post is under review and will likely be affected by a management re-structure so i have to make hay while the sun shines, so to speak
Ross-Kemp Posted 20 January 2013 Posted 20 January 2013 Thank you for your input, may I ask whether you've considered moving to another company? And if so, what has stopped you from moving? Thanks. I must admit I have considerd it, but that's mainly down to the shit shifts they're trying to impose on me. The reason I haven't looked anywhere else yet is because they're a decent company, trying different things within the market and the job is relatively stress free compared to other employers in this sector ( see my previous post)
Monk Posted 20 January 2013 Posted 20 January 2013 What's Your job - run my own data analytics consultancy (Optional) What's your salary/wage? - I'll keep that to myself for now. Is this a fair amount? - It's roughly market rate for consultancy Is the salary/wage representative of how much work you do? No, it's representative of the value I provide to my clients. Sometimes that means working my arse off, sometimes it means not working hard at all - but the client gets what they asked for.
Ilkeston_Fox Posted 21 January 2013 Posted 21 January 2013 What's Your job - Machine operator for Royal Mail (Optional) What's your salary/wage? - A little over 23k p/a Is this a fair amount? - For what I do yes, for anyone on delivery, they deserve more imo. They work far harder and have to put up with far more crap than I do - I still get a fair share though. Is the salary/wage representative of how much work you do? Again, for me yes as it's not a bad little number. I also work for the Police as a Special Constable (unpaid), for me an officer deserves every penny they earn! They do a truly hard job and have to put up with an unbelievable amount of crap that an outsider will have absolutely no idea about. Along with further cuts to frontline policing their job is only going to get harder.
HEGGSY Posted 21 January 2013 Posted 21 January 2013 The questions are; What's Your job (If you have one...There is a separate part for the unemployed.) (Optional) What's your salary/wage? Is this a fair amount? Is the salary/wage representative of how much work you do? Plumber Admittedely an apprentice, albeit an old one at 26 ****in shite Basic before tax £15500 Though with OT this year its going to be more like 18k Is it bollox Is it bollox I'll expand a bit further. I'm a qualified plumber, doing my Level 3 which will include the gas side. Once I've finished that in June my wage will roughly double. Having said that, I know for a fact on jobs (which don't involve gas work) they charge me out at the full rate as they would do with any other plumber on our firm with their gas. I was doing my level 3 a few years ago, but then got made redundant so had to leave the course too. In fairness I'm on no less than the other lad who was doing his level 3 a few years ago, but he was 19/20 I'm 26 with a mortgage and do (by all accounts) far more work on my own than he did at the same stage. Spoke to the bosses about a rise, but they've just said I'll be getting one as soon as my gas is finished. They are great bosses though. If I wanted half a day off tomorrow for whatever reason, I'd get it. Plus they're massive city fans! Plumbing in general has to be one of the most difficult jobs out there. The problems you encounter, and the potential outcome of any mistakes you make are huge. In my case with my current wage I could go and stack shelves and earn more money. In an average plumbers case I still don't think the salary suits the responsibility that you have. In other words Heggsy, find a better job!! Only just seen this, it is what it is I guess, but it's hard work even getting to where you are right now I'll swap places if you like
The Year Of The Fox Posted 21 January 2013 Posted 21 January 2013 Only just seen this, it is what it is I guess, but it's hard work even getting to where you are right now I'll swap places if you like I've been there too mate and,it aint nice. I think Pochins off Scudamore Rd were employing when i went in last. Get a job in a merchants and learn all the fittings etc. I did that and even now i know more variety of fittings than the most experienced lads on the firm. Plus you'll get to know no end of plumbers some who may eventually take you on
Rincewind Posted 21 January 2013 Posted 21 January 2013 Saw the decorators/fitters earlier. Still need my washing machine plumbing in. He had a look and said he had left a clamp for the outlet -wastage pipe. The plumber is about on the street so he'll pop in when he's done elsewhere. I've fitted the hot and cold fittings but wary about these things as I know bugger all about plumbing. Had problems before with the machine not emptying properly and overflowing. Probably a blockage but needs looking at by someone who knows what they are doing.
