A foot in the door: internship at baylor university

Tomorrow I am flying out to Texas for a strength and conditioning internship with Baylor University, I will be there for 8 weeks, the whole thing is unpaid and basically just a chance for me to get some experience, and learn as much as I can. I know quite a few people on here enjoy following some blogs, I've decided to create one (they aren't easy), it's just a chance for anyone who's interested to have a read. I can't promise that my spelling and grammar is the best, but I will do my best to keep it up to FT standards. While I'm out there I will be taking my away day flag which has already seen the top of mount Quilotoa in Ecuador. I thought for a bit of fun, I'll open it up to FT'ers to set some reasonable and appropriate challenges of photos they'd like to see the flag in. I will be in an American university environment, staying in student accommodation, the university is based in Waco, Texas, I'll post the photos on the blog. I'll be working most days from early morning to the evenings so I'll try my best to do what I can, me and my brother were talking and we came up with some interesting ideas. I'll be keeping up to date with City as much as I can, should be back ready for the Forest game. Thanks for your time.

As you will be in Dallas , any chance of a photo from the grassy knoll or Abraham Zapruder's plinth in Dealy Plaza?

that would make my day :)

All the best anyway ,yahoooooo !!

My bus on Saturday morning leaves from two blocks away, if I don't get it then I'll get it on the way back! Great shout, I've learnt something today as well haha!

RG3 and Michael Johnson are the key to any conversation at Baylor!

His coach Clyde Hart, still works at Baylor as the director of athletics, he's celebrating his 50th year at the university this year.

He'll have some interesting stories to tell over that time.

Or this?

Not that the 6th floor of the Dallas Book Depositry has anything to do anything?

How well would that go down....

I can't imagine what life is like in American colleges, but I'm sure it will be an amazing experience for you.

Good luck in the states!!

Cheers!

That's a coincidence, the Waco siege started 20 years ago today and that lasted about 8 weeks!

Good luck, watch out for those cultists.

 I knew about the siege never realised it was 20 years today! Thanks...I think.

Sounds great.

Be sure to take in some Baylor Bears Basketball - they' aren't great but they're in a mean division the big 12 and their games are televised so see if you can get the City flag on the TV there.

Their football team - american football - had a good season too after an iffy start they beat some big teams at the end of the year.

After safely arriving in Waco, I've wrote my second blog post. Zingari I visited Dealey Plaza, unfortunately it's all dug up atm as they prepare for 50th anniversary celebrations, however I did get a photo next to the sixth floor museum and will head back in 8 weeks to try and get one of the plinth. I'll post the picture when I can sort my camera out. Frustrating result yesterday is the only real downside to the past few days.

I'm not sure celebrations is the right word, or is it?

I couldn't think of anything better.

Edit: Too clarify I mean I couldn't think of a better term, not I couldn't think of anything better than celebrating 50 years of his death.

Super blog Smiv and thanks for trying to get some pics anyway.I thought there may be a lot of disruption going on there now, and probably will be for a good while .

You'll probably be hearing a lot about all this stuff nearer the date 22nd Nov, so It will be a great bragging right for you nearer the time when you get back :D

I can see the reflection of the taxi driver in your pic , and he does look a miserable old sod .

He could at least have told you that the grasy knoll was on the other side of the triple underpass.

( I think I can see the TSBD on the other side of the road on the left in your pic, behind the underpass, I'm not sure though)

Anyway , "The Eyes of Texas FT are Upon You", for the next few weeks ,

All the best and Good luck .

interesting read, pal! enjoy it. really nice way to try and live your life by too, that motto - 'make memories, not excuses'.

totally relate to your comments on the greyhound, too. i used it to travel all over the states last year and some of the stations i ended up at, and some of the people i met/saw/shared a bus journey with, were pretty scary! looking back though, it was a great way to see an amazing country.

shall keep an eye on your blog, mate. all the best and good luck!

Right, another blog post has just gone up.

It's been a while as I have been far busier than I ever imagined. At the moment having a life feels part time, with the internship very much taking centre stage. I'll try to update it more regularly, thank you to those who do read it, I hope you enjoy it. The Leicester flag will be taking a trip to Austin on Saturday.

Hey sorry been a busy week. As you're aware Wednesday night was a bit manic, we live about twenty minutes from West and the noise of the explosion from here was pretty scary! The media were reporting the explosion as being in Waco, I had a lot of texts and calls from friends and family through the night. It's pretty devastating whats happened, I'm not religious but I can understand why so many here are dependent upon their prayers. The wait to donate blood at the local centres was five hours plus, a huge turnout from the locals. For me work went on as usual the football team were in to train at 6am, following that some of the coaches went to donate blood, I donated some clothes, I can't really stand needles which I know sounds selfish. The one thing I've learnt over this week is the Americans really do unite and come together as a community, it's pretty overwhelming.
