purpleronnie Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 You know there are some positive stories out there in media world.
johnny the fox Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 problem is.. its a recipe for stagnation. If people don't have sufficient disposable income after the essentials are covered, then they can't spend it and help grow the economy. we could be in this state a long time.
MooseBreath Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 The old unions would have never accepted these real terms pay cuts, and as a result a lot of workers would have lost their jobs. Instead we have the 2nd best employment growth in Europe. Jobs abound for anyone with a worthwhile skillset. Inequality falling. All in all a much better picture than you'd expect on the back of such a prolonged period of no growth. This Is a good news story.
Rincewind Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 You know there are some positive stories out there in media world. True, there are and they are more readily available. You have to search for the 'true' stories. People would rather read about some celebrity getting married. If you read only one paper then things are looking rosy so why be depressed by reading others that you are going to dismiss and ignore anyway?
Guest MattP Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 You know there are some positive stories out there in media world. Absolutely. Let's focus on some positives. Unemployment falls by 5,000 and Jobseeker's Allowance claimants fell by 8,600 in May from a month earlier to 1.51 million. The number of benefits claimants is at its lowest level in two years. Private Section creation still outstripping Public Sector losses. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-22868901

Guest MattP Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 Call mr skeptical but I absolutely love people will quote these figures as part of their argument when they are bad but decide to be 'sceptical' when they are good despite it being the same organisation producing the statistics.
purpleronnie Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 I constantly read about how hard it is for people to get a job. My brother in law was employed but wanted a change so he applied for job a few weeks ago and got it without any experience, its a job requiring a few weeks of training and its well paid. I just find it odd so many people can't find work...of any kind. Of course it will depend on many factors and theres no doubt some people are desperate and are constantly doing everything they can to gain employment, but I am started to question whether the job market really is as bad as some say it is.

I've removed it.

It quite clearly isn't. I still get e-mails every day from finance companies. I wandered down the Co-Op this morning and their were 7/8 advertisments on the notice board, my brother works for a recruitment company and he doesn't seem to get out the office until 7pm every day. People think they deserve more than they are worth (look at Lamby who wants to start on 28k a year ffs and refuses to work for less with a few average GCSE's) or they are part of this entitlement culture created by the last government and are now using every excuse in the book to avoid doing something. The word needs ditch diggers too but why bother doing it if you can drop a kid off and pick up roughly the same wage off the state doing nothing.
Ross-Kemp Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 I've been in my job since September. I have relatively no decent grades, however, I work hard. I started through an agency and I was made permanent in May. Within the next 2 weeks I will be getting my 4th Payrise. Sometimes you need to start from the bottom.
Guest MattP Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 Good for you Ross, always nice to hear stories of hard work paying off.
