kam6 Posted 29 June 2013 Posted 29 June 2013 Hi guys. Go easy on me, but I was thinking.... We have welsh teams in the English football league, well done to swans and the red/blue birds, and we have Celtic and rangers trying to knock on the door to the English leagues. Why not have a British cup?? I know it's extra games to play as all leagues have their respective FA and league cups, but the British cup could introduce some of the teams in britain and Northern Ireland and play one another. Not sure how it could work, possibly limit to an under 23s + 3 seniors. I know wronger would love it!!!! Again, just a thought as its close season and I'm board of reading why we haven't signed anyone or Pearson out crap!! Thoughts from you?
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 29 June 2013 Posted 29 June 2013 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglo-Scottish_Cup An England-Scotland (and briefly Ireland) competition was tried in a couple of guises, but there was little appetite for it. With clubs struggling to get enthusiastic about the domestic cups we currently have, I can't imagine another one, even pre-season or for U23s, would be welcomed. Besides, the other associations would kick up like they did for the Great Britain Olympic team, worrying that this would adversely effect our seperate associations clause with FIFA.
Bayfox Posted 29 June 2013 Posted 29 June 2013 scrap the league cup. start with the bottom division in scotland palying bottom sides in england. the add in the next tier up meaning 2 rounds before championship and both top flight sides come in. a yes for me dispite our cup wins i would have a bit morr interest in the competition in general if it had few old enemy ties.
Voll Blau Posted 29 June 2013 Posted 29 June 2013 Pretty sure the likes of Torquay would object in the strongest terms to having to face a Tuesday night away game at Ross County.

DennisNedry Posted 29 June 2013 Posted 29 June 2013 I quite like the idea but we already have enough games a season as it is.
kam6 Posted 29 June 2013 Author Posted 29 June 2013 Thanks for the feedback. I think that it would work if it was the youngsters so then there will not be so much of a fixture build up problem. I think Scotland's "reserves" are under 21 or 23 and now that's been introduced to the English teams. So having a cup with all the nations teams involved might work. Perhaps limit certain leagues??

Well that could work, but then the competition becomes more of a training exercise for the reserves than a cup that the clubs and fans actually care about.
