Sure, there would be some benefits, but imagine all of the better uses we have for £42bn. On a selfish note, I oppose HS2 because it will never benefit me. On the very few occasions I do leave the midlands for whatever reason I can't justify the cost of a standard train, let alone high speed rail. Imagine if that £42bn went on building affordable housing. Suddenly construction companies are falling over themselves building and our manufacturing industry is employing hundreds of thousands of people. Now buying a house will actually be a realistic ambition for anybody on average earnings under 30. Mortgage repayments are much less, meaning homeowners can have much more disposable income to spend in the country. Holy shit, I think I just solved our economy. **** the trains!

Voll Blau Posted 29 October 2013 Posted 29 October 2013 Much rather it was used to upgrade the existing railways. Tickets are likely to be so expensive for this new line it's going to benefit the few and not the many.

Fox92 Posted 29 October 2013 Posted 29 October 2013 I'd like to see some sort of upgrade, I live near Sheffield and the train to London is obviously longer than the East Coast. Obviously live in Manchester at the minute while at uni, and I think there want it because Piccaddily is getting an upgrade. That will become a good point of the line.
