Uncle Albert Posted 24 February 2014 Author Posted 24 February 2014 We'll be over that day, show support to Andrews and the Wymeswold players playing for them. 'One Brady Hickey, theres only one Brady Hickey..'
Soar Fox Posted 3 March 2014 Posted 3 March 2014 Bump. St Andrews v Newcastle Benfield in the quarter finals of the FA Vase this weekend. Ian stringer will be down commentating on the game and jobber is going down to support the lads and will be taking his drum. £7 on the gate to get, they have a decent bar, and will have a game on in the clubhouse also. Hope to see many foxes fans down there.
Manwell Pablo Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 Guessing they lost then? Edit: Nope seems they won, well done all involved.
Guest Col city fan Posted 12 March 2014 Posted 12 March 2014 Not playing any football this season as I can't commit to training and match days. I'll be back playing next season for St Andrews or Friar Lane. How are Barrow Town getting on this season I had a few friends who played for them last season. You must be a good player mate if you can walk straight back into Senior League sides. Are you still playing Sundays this season?

Not played any football since the county cup final last year. Not really missed it to be honest, been working a lot trying to save up for a house. I'll start playing again next season after working hard on my fitness over the summer as I've let myself go a bit

Not saying he's not a good player but that's far from always the case in the Senior League, I've seen some god awful players getting away with playing at that level, admittedly it wasn't long before they were moved on. I think St Andrews are East Midlands Counties now anyway.

Uncle Albert Posted 13 March 2014 Author Posted 13 March 2014 The standard of the Senior League is shocking, nothing compared to what it used to be.
Guest Col city fan Posted 13 March 2014 Posted 13 March 2014 The standard of the Senior League is shocking, nothing compared to what it used to be.I'm going back years mate when Senior League football was actually played at quite a good standard. The best teams when I was a kid were usually FLOB and Anstey Nomads. I dont think that teams like Highfield Rangers were even around then? I played in a County Cup final one year at Friar Lane's ground (it had a stand and a tea bar!!) had a mare and got subbed off at half time. I remember thinking what a shit pitch it was.

Oh yeah late 90s and early 00s the Senior League was the real deal. Thurnby were a great side as well. The creation of the EMCL (East Midlands Counties League) has kind of killed the Senior League but that was to be expected, the EMCL is now the old Senior League but on a wider scale. Just shows the lack of quality current in the Leicestershire Leagues compared to what it once was.

Maybe around 1990?Cheers for the info mate.
Manwell Pablo Posted 14 March 2014 Posted 14 March 2014 You can play a bit MP can't you? Yes, but That's probably the operative part of your sentence I'm a couple of divisions off the senior league.
Grandad. Posted 11 September 2014 Posted 11 September 2014 Bump. I went to watch Friar Lane v Rothley on Tuesday night, both in the top 6 of the Senior League. I can't believe how poor the standard is, it's been pretty average for a while now but on Tuesday I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I also can't believe clubs are paying money out in that league. Sorry to anyone reading this and you played in that game. The Senior League used to be a fantastic league, God knows what the standard is like in the leagues below now.

It's like you said before the genuinely good teams have got promoted now which is the way it should be. The reason the senior league used to be good is because it was a bottle neck league no one could get out of. Ivanhoe reserves are in (and doing alright) in Senior League Div 1 now, I helped a team out in NL Div 2 and the game wasn't a patch on the Burton Sunday League Div 2 I normally play in, and my old side have started off life in North Leics Div 1 by winning 5-1 when they were all 5 years younger they normally struggled in that league, it's clearly getting worse but it's actually now representative of what a Step 7,8,9,10 etc standard should be.

You back at Measham now mate? If so, see you tomorrow!
Manwell Pablo Posted 12 September 2014 Posted 12 September 2014 You back at Measham now mate? If so, see you tomorrow! I'm not there pal I just help them out when they need me to I can't do every week because spending all weekend, every weekend on the football pitch/in the pub isn't really fair the missus/daughter. And they've got a full squad tomorrow, they had 14 last week though so god knows why I was called in to play 90 They can be a good team if they turn up I'll warn you! If they don't you'll probably beat them with ease
Manwell Pablo Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 Ellistown and Ibstock knocked Hereford United out of the FA cup at the weekend!
purpleronnie Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 Ellistown and Ibstock knocked Hereford United out of the FA cup at the weekend! Yep they have Halesowen Town at home in the next round, Blaby will play Stourbridge, Barwell v Norwich Utd. And if Coalville win the replay they'll play Lowestoft Town, all the leicestershire teams are at home.

I know a few of the ET&I lads, absolutely amazed they beat Hereford and I'd imagine Halesowen would rip them apart but after that result who knows. Sadly I'm busy this Tuesday and the 27th otherwise I'd consider going to see one of them. Maybe in the third round if one of them gets through.
