lush Posted 10 August 2005 Posted 10 August 2005 Cable firm NTL is to up the basic speeds of its broadband offering to 10Mbps. Subscribers will get a standard minimum 10Mbps connection speed, without paying extra. NTL said it was a "major step" for the UK's digital future." The higher speeds pave the way for the online delivery of much better quality video and TV. More people in the UK go online via broadband then by dial-up, says the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Broadband overtook dial-up in May, and now makes up 50.7% of net connections. Many people now have basic speeds of 1Mbps or 2Mbps. With an explosion of more rich multimedia content on the web, such as podcasts, video blogs, online gaming, news and other video, voice over IP, music downloads, higher connection speeds are essential. The content industry needs to step up and deliver content and applications to make it worth delivering these sorts of speeds. There is more to read.
Hitesh Posted 10 August 2005 Posted 10 August 2005 Just gets worse for AOL users! We now have to pay a fee whenever we login in! And we still have the same speed!
Katy Posted 10 August 2005 Posted 10 August 2005 AOL is pants! its the only broadband available in my area though but I have NTL dial up on my laptop. If NTL got their finger out and broadbanded round here theres a couple of dead cert new customers I can think of.

AyewJoking Posted 10 August 2005 Posted 10 August 2005 Will the upgrade be automatic or will we have to manually configure it?
Steven Posted 10 August 2005 Posted 10 August 2005 This is Cable Broadband we are talking about and not ADSL ?
lush Posted 10 August 2005 Author Posted 10 August 2005 Will the upgrade be automatic or will we have to manually configure it? 154550 When 300k users got the free upgrade to 1MB, all i had to do was go to their website and click the link to 1MB (with email address and password).

Anish Posted 11 August 2005 Posted 11 August 2005 Bloody NTL - wish they would come round to my area soon. I am stuck with BT's ADSL service (although BT isn't my ISP - I am with Pipex atm but will soon be switched over to ukonline.net). Anyway, because of BT's poor service, the exchange that I use to access broadband is limited to 512k, so I can't even get 1mb broadband because of BT. Tossers
cisono Posted 11 August 2005 Posted 11 August 2005 I'm on NTL 154976 So am I, but haven't seen these blindingly fast speeds as yet!!!
