LanguedocFox Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 Been on the pitch 20 mins and been horrific tonight... Against Barcelona but doesn't look remotely interested Agreed. He was absolutely dreadful: Morgan, Moore, Wasilewski - in fact any of our defenders - would have done a million times better. We have players at the club now who want to play for the team. I fear that Lescott would be another Wise, Keown or Dublin - here for the last big pay packet. Been there, done that, got the awful memories. Thanks but no thanks.
volpeazzurro Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 Most of you try and make it sound so simple. Bring in 5+ "Premiership standard players" on big wages and we will be sweet. Have you even contemplated how that would effect changing room dynamics? Hypothetically say we go up and sign Lescott, we give him a sign on fee of around £1 million and give him wages of £70,000 because don't forget we've got the money to do that with the figure of around £60 million for promotion. Either Moore or Morgan find themselves on the bench on a weekly salary of less than half of Lescott's wage. But hang on a minute, we were an integral part of this team last season. We played some of the best football of our career to get this club promoted and now I'm replaced by someone who just waltzes in and takes my spot and gets more than double what I'm on. **** this, I want out. It's what happened under Sven, factions started to develop between the players on big money and the rest of the squad who were left over from Pearson/Sousa. It's literally team morale suicide. You can't suddenly go from being a Championship club with Championship wages to paying new players big money. It has to be a slow progression and you have to change the team dynamics slowly. Otherwise you've ****ed the team spirit that got you up in the first place. Nigel will gradually develop and change the squad and integrate new players, if he doesn't he will end up like countless other managers that have been sacked when their team goes to pot in the Premiership and I'm pretty sure he's smart enough to know this. A very well presented argument with which I agree. Whatever we've got at the moment, we've got a 'team' with good team spirit who MAY win promotion. Do I think that they are all up to the task on their own ... no of course I don't. But with the right incomings, and I think and trust that Walsh and co are going to be adept at doing this whilst endeavouring to secure our financial future well being at the same time. NP's signings have all had age, improvement and future sellability written throughout them if needed. Lescott doesn't fit that mould and also has the air of a player that Gingerfox quite rightly points out doesn't seem to fit us anymore. I particularly liked his move tonight against Barcelona when not under pressure, he booted the ball out for a corner putting his team under pressure. Whilst admittedly against top class opposition, we could pay a lot less for such expertise. As for the comments that we should be embarrassed about talking about 'possible Premiership Status' because of other teams fans thoughts, well sod em. Its our site and I for one don't care what they think. If anyone feels uncomfortable discussing the 'what ifs' then just don't join in, feel free to abstain. I for one am just enjoying the moment daring to dream about it, dreaming is harmless, it's been a long time after all! I've also been there when we've gone up and got bored with being beaten every week but for the time being I feel like a kid at Christmas and Santa's on his way...stay happy and optimistic and savour the moment!
Raj Posted 18 February 2014 Posted 18 February 2014 Lets stick with young hungry players. Not fookers with nothing to prove used to doing shit all for 80k a week
