Lescott?

Great player. Highly doubt he would go to us though, as much as I would like him to. He's only 31, he would do a job for a much more established premier league side than us.

Also, going from league winners to (let's face it) mid-table at best, I doubt his heart would really be in it.

Purely speculation at present, but if promoted could be some valuable experience.

It is going to be difficult if we get up, the signing of someone like Lescott would do us the world of good but would inevitable result in either our captain or most promising youth product getting benched.

If it happened I would be surprised, pleased but surprised, still think he has a lot to offer, especially to a newly promoted club, but I feel his wages would be astronomical, for a one season deal with an option for an extra then I think all promoted clubs would be interested, as it would mean not getting stuck with a high earner should they be relegated.

I'd be very surpised considering the majority of PL teams would want him, that's without considering what sort of wage he is on now.

Cracking defender if you ask me just seems like he is happy to sit and take a big wage at City. Honestly think he could make the England squad if he was playing week in week out.

Quality defender but highly unlikely of him to come here. There will be a number of Prem teams looking at him at the end of his contract.

Just isn't gonna happen is it. He might end up going to Man Utd to be reunited with Moyes. They're gonna be after a few centre backs in the summer.

We wouldn't match his wages, nor would he come here I don't think.

He's on £85000 a week........

Close thread

One year, (assuming we can't do a 9 month contract or pay as you play) would be £4.42million in wages, free transfer so a hefty signing on fee, no idea how much that would be, but lets say half a mil (is that realistic) factor in a bidding war and extras, lets say 6 million to have him for the year, the team that finishes bottom stands to make at least 60 million in TV and prize money

It's not that unrealistic.

How much did Matt Mills cost us? Fee £5mill, recouped 2, a year of wages at 40k a week, 2million, signing on fee??? Subsidised wages for a further 2 years???

You think NP will do that?

Cuckoo land fella

we've moved on from Svens days now.

If we gain promotion doesn't mean that Nigel is gonna suddenly go on one and buy a group of players for £15-40 million and hand out big wages. Just simply isn't going to happen. He's the type of manager who would rather invest in the academy, scouting department, sport science department, facilities etc. I think the owners have adopted the "stability is key" mantra for the football club and Nigel is their man for it.

I don't know what NP will do, he has never had a newly promoted prem team and an 8 figure budget.

If our current squad is within FFP, that basically means the wages and everything are being covered by income, so even ignoring increased gates and revenue from ticket sales (which considering there are less matches might not actually be that much), the £60 million minimum in TV and prize money can be spent entirely on strengthening the squad.

One tenth of the budget to secure a player like Lescott for a year, I think he would consider it. Lescott with Moore as understudy give him another year to progress, then he can fill in should Lescott go at the end of the season.

We will have a ridiculous amount of money to play with in the transfer market should we get promoted. If NP identified Lescott as a target we could easily afford him.

Why not, if we get promoted he will have a minimum 60million to spend, he would be mad not to spend as much of that as possible on improving the squad, because should we have a second season in the Prem we will have another 60 million+ to spend. The new TV deal is ridiculous: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/competitions/premier-league/10072297/New-Premier-League-TV-deal-promises-100m-prize-money-for-next-seasons-title-winners.html  every other promoted and established prem club will have £60-£100 million to spend if we don't then we will be left behind.

Whether Lescott would come is a different matter, but we have the funds to afford him and 10 more like him, and he would be risk free as a free transfer and hopefully accept a 1 year deal.

If we get promotion this year it would have took the owners 4 years to get where they want to be. I doubt they'd want to be in a relegation battle all season with the possibility of getting relegated after one season.

I imagine they'll give Nigel Pearson a significant transfer budget to ensure that we have the best chance of survival. If Pearson identifies Lescott as a target I'm sure the owners would give him the funds to make it happen.
