wight88 Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 Has there ever been a precedent in the English football leagues of a team hitting the 70 point mark by the end of February and managing to cock up promotion?
A fox for life Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 Also how often has a team accumulated 70 points at this stage
Fox92 Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 Only two teams have had 70(+) at this stage I think. Fulham and Reading.
Iwan is a Welshman Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 Yes - on the 2nd March 2002 Wolves were top with 76 points from 37 games. They finished third on 86 points. Man City and West Brom took the automatic spots and Birmingham were promoted via the play offs. That must have been sickening, only a handful of teams have actually reached 70 points before March in the last ten years. However, after 32 games (which is what we're on now) they did only have 64 points.
Deucalion Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 Didn't someone in a different thread say the last time was Blackburn the season they beat us in the playoffs?
broughtonblue Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 Another question, when was the last match we didn't attack the kop in the second half, really can't remember?
Narborough_fox Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 Since Division One got changed to the Championship (2004/05), this is what the leaders have had after 32 games and where they finished in the league... 04/05 - Ipswich (65pts)... 3rd (85pts) 05/06 - Reading (79pts)... 1st (106pts) 06/07 - Derby (63pts)... 3rd (84pts, up through play-offs) 07/08 - Watford (58pts)... 6th (70pts) 08/09 - Wolves (63pts)... 1st (90pts) 09/10 - Newcastle (66pts)... 1st (102pts) 10/11 - QPR (61pts)... 1st (88pts) 11/12 - West Ham (61pts)... 3rd (86pts, up through play-offs) 12/13 - Cardiff (67pts)... 1st (87pts) So, only 1 team has ever had more points than us at this stage in the Championship and they went up with the most amount of points ever. Shows how strong a position we are in, if we didn't know. Of the 9 seasons we've had of the Championship the team that was leading after 32 games, 5 went up as champions with 2 more going up with the play-offs. The average points gained from the last 14 games is 23.8 points (let's say 24), if we were to get that amount of points we'd end with 95 points, which in every other season has seen a team end up as Champions. NB: Praying all these calculations are correct...
Matt Posted 22 February 2014 Posted 22 February 2014 Another question, when was the last match we didn't attack the kop in the second half, really can't remember? I thought this earlier, i'm not sure we have this season.
