Manchester United 'Singing Section'

Recommended Posts

So apparently quite a few United STHs are upset having received an e-mail from their Club saying they are being moved to accommodate a 'singing section' next season.

Thoughts on this?

Personally I can see both sides but I'm more inclined to side with the Club on this one. The term 'singing section' is fvcking woeful but I wholly agree with the premise that getting a group of like-minded singers willing to create a non-stop atmosphere standing together is the best way to create a great atmosphere throughout the ground.

It makes me a little sad that people would rather sit in a sort of silent protest than move their seat slightly to improve the atmosphere.

Fair play to the club.

I simply can not imagine getting upset with having to move my seat (I'm sure some compensation will be offered) When I am too old to stand and sing, just so younger fans can make some noise.

I suppose you'll never know now though. I bet a lot of the 'singers' (who were in the majority I'm led to believe) wouldn't have envisaged football being like it is today. I get the feeling a lot of the more old school seem to embrace the times and accept them for what they are, whereas us pair for example are largely in the minority these days.

I think I'll be the same as you but it's largely a generation thing. I can't see myself ever wanting to go to a game and not be involved in the atmosphere in some form.

I'd be a bit ****ed off if I'd been sitting in the same place for years, with the same people around me who I'd gotten to know and the club decided to turf me out for some faddy section that might not even make any difference.

They've been trying to create an atmosphere for ages now. We all know the atmosphere at Old Trafford is dire, especially considering the size and success of the club. But they get a hell of a lot of visitors for the day just because it's Manchester United, who probably arn't interested in sitting there and singing.

On this subject, I echo was indierich has just said above. Completely agree with his post.

They're trying to do something to improve the atmosphere - which you state as dire - but you are not willing to make a, let's be honest, really small personal sacrifice for the good of 76,000 other people and 11 lads on the pitch? It's not like they are booting you out of the ground and I'm sure they'd find you and whoever you go with a similar spot together elsewhere.

Can you explain to me why you think like this? I can't get my head round it.

Suppose it depends what they're doing in terms of moving people? If they're giving you priority and moving people together then that's decent I suppose.

I agree this is a good idea though, and the regulars will probably be pleased about it (lets face it, away from home they are very well supported and don't shut up), because of the situation. I constantly hear people moaning about how bad the atmosphere is.
