Guest MattP Posted 5 June 2014 Posted 5 June 2014 £5m for a keeper entering his prime having been named in the PFA Championship TOTY and establishing himself as first-choice for the national team seems quite cheap to me. Anything below £3m would be an outright steal surely. If we get relegated he'll be off for a minimal fee, he was an in demand player out of contract, he was holding all the cards here. He'll have a variety of clauses I'd imagine from a very cheap one (probably even nothing) if we went down to a figure a team would have to pay for him if he wanted to leave regardless. Problem with allowing contracts to run down is you leave yourself open to being molested by agents if you want to keep them after they have ran down.
shen Posted 5 June 2014 Posted 5 June 2014 I'm not talking about his worth, I'm talking about clauses in a contract. He and his agent were in the driving seat and it suits them more to have as low a buyout clause as possible. I presume we are also asking for clauses such as big drops in wages should we get relegated, the flip side of that is agents often only accept them with the proviso of a low buyout clause to pretty much guarantee a move away. I might be a tad optimistic regarding a buyout/relegation clause. I would like to think that his market value is above £3-5m hence why a release clause around that level would seem acceptable in Kasper's camp.
Rocky Dennis Posted 5 June 2014 Posted 5 June 2014 Great, he's signed.Time to debate when he's gonna leave?

Sadly it was the only option for us at this time but either way we've got him for a bit longer when he could've walked for free now. Loving the sig by the way

Loving the sig by the way Cheers I agree, it was the only option in hindsight and we couldn't really do anything else. It's still a far better deal for us anyway then watching him walk away on a free.
MPH Posted 5 June 2014 Posted 5 June 2014 im kind of hoping this will help attract other people to the club... kind of like a statement of intent.....
