Foxestalkers in Brazil?

Thought I'd start a thread to see if anyone else on here is off to Brazil so that we can discuss accommodation, tips, tickets and plans...

There are 4 of us flying out to Fortaleza on Sunday, our route is as follows:

08/06/2014 to 19/06/2014 - FORTALEZA

19/06/2014 to 25/06/2014 - NATAL

25/06/2014 to 30/06/2014 - RECIFE

30/06/2014 to 10/07/2014 - SALVADOR

10/07/2014 to 15/07/2014 - RIO DE JANEIRO

We've got tickets to the following matches:

Uruguay vs Costa Rica (Fortaleza)

Greece vs Japan (Natal) lol

Italy vs Uruguay (Natal)

USA vs Germany (Recife)

Round of 16 (Recife)

Round of 16 (Salvador)

Quarter-final (Salvador)

I was quite surprised how many tickets were still left today when all of the remaining tickets went on sale. We planned our route around July last year and applied for tickets to matches on in cities whilst we were there before we even knew who would be playing so we've done fairly well (with the exception of Greece vs Japan). With England in Group D we had a 3 in 4 chance of seeing them but they filled the one spot (D3) that we wouldn't see! If they win the group we have tickets to their first knockout however.

All of the round of 16s are sold out, as are the quarter-finals, Italy vs Uruguay and USA vs Germany so hopefully we can make some money on the spares that we have:

2 for Uruguay vs Costa Rica (Fortaleza)

2 for Greece vs Japan (Natal) lol

2 for Italy vs Uruguay (Natal)

4 for Round of 16 (Recife)

3 for Round of 16 (Salvador)

5 for Quarter-final (Salvador)

If anyone is going and would be interested in any of these tickets let me know!

Or anyone going and in the same cities at the same time as us?

Mate can I just tell you how jealous I am of you. Enjoy yourself mate because chances are this will be the best month of your life, it'll be downhill from end of July onwards for the rest of your days! Hahahaa

What a gig that sounds.

Cheers guys.

Can't wait to go now and hoping that somehow England win the group. We planned our route and matches and basically said if we saw England it would be nice, but if not it wouldn't be the end of the world. We've ended up with tickets to the winners of England's group in the knockouts so it really would be the cherry on top to see them! (not that I'm expecting it mind)

Hoping to see a few City fans out there, we're always well represented on tv at England away games when you see the flags around the stadiums. Appears that none of them are in this thread however!

Ric Flair, you're right about this being once-in-a-lifetime stuff and I'm sure the comedown will be pretty big but I've got 5 months of travelling attached onto the end of the World Cup so plenty to look forward to when the tournament's done. Then the planning will start for Euro 2016 in France...

Hopefully you can meet people out there mate, Italians or Uruguayans who would be willing to swap with you even if we don't finish top of the group?

This is like an offshoot of the Humblebrag thread right?  ;)

Only jesting Freeman's, have a cracking time out there  :trumpet:  :lei1:

Yeah, it's worked out nicely because we've either got tickets to England's first knockout or we're in Natal for the final group game between Italy and Uruguay so if one of those two wins the group (as I personally expect) we can bitterly fleece a few of them for tickets to the round of 16 in Recife!

Sounds exceptional. How's it looking for accommodation prices? Was hearing a while back that they hadn't build enough extra capacity and you were looking at hotel prices going up about 15x.

It's been a real mix depending upon the host city.

Fortaleza for example, we've got accommodation for £25 a night in a hostel which isn't a massive amount more than you'd normally pay in Brazil anyway (it's not the cheapest of countries outside of the World Cup). Rio, as you can probably imagine, is ridiculously expensive so we're limiting our time there to just 5 nights when the final's on.

Recife was the real problem place for us, even having planned this before we knew who would be playing there. There doesn't seem to be a huge amount of budget options (most accommodation is really expensive hotels) and the only place that we did find only had space for 3 out of the 5 nights so we've split our time between two places. If England win the group their first knockout would be in Recife and the hordes of English will really struggle to find cheap options at short notice.

5 months of travelling at the end of the World Cup???!! FML.

Where are you going?

Uruguay, Chile, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, USA, New Zealand and Thailand :P

 Will get my Leicester shirt on and make sure that every foreign football fan I meet will know to keep an eye out for Leicester City in The Premiership next season and that Riyad Mahrez will win the Ballon d'Or in 2016...

I'm fed up of going abroad with my Manchester United (from Manchester) supporting and Leeds supporting mates and, when speaking to foreigners about football, seeing the vacant expression on peoples' faces when I say I support a team called Leicester City!

I'm flying out on Wednesday to Salvador for the group stages.

Got Holland vs Spain and Australia, Ivory Coast vs Japan and the US vs Ghana (gutted about Schluppo) so I'm off to Recife, Natal and Porto Alegre for the football too. Stints in Rio, Parati and the Iguassu Falls should be class aswell. :D

Agree with Freeman's Wharfer about Recife - an absolute shocker for accommodation. Shite that the ground is 20km out of town too with seemingly no advice on what's around the stadium, how to get there etc.

My internal flights keep getting changed, even up to now, which is a bit of a ballache to keep monitoring (one of them has changed SIX times already). I might not be looking hard enough but I think the information I've found on the web has been poor. I can't imagine that if we had the World Cup you wouldn't be able to find reams of info about every pub and transport link in the country.

Nice one mate!

Sounds like you're going to some of the same places as us but doing a reverse route almost. We're also going to Iguassu a couple of days after the final and I've been before so if you want any tips etc. feel free to DM me - make sure you do the Argentinian side if you can as it's far better.

Our flights have changed a couple of times as well although thankfully not by too much. I'm sure the tournament is going to be absolutely class but, considering they had 7 years to prepare, some of the infrastructure around the football seems to be leaving a little to be desired.
