Im still unsure myself, given the fact its been out longer than the other 2 consoles already and its trailing in sales behind them both too. Im not by no means saying Nintendo are "crap" and all that; they just took their eye off the ball so to speak; but some of the titles announced at E3 do look really good...but sadly I cant see them giving the console that needed "jump start" it so badly needs, 1 factor being a good number of 3rd party studios seem to have almost thrown the console to the wayside...with titles not being announced for it....or not coming out on the same day as PS4/Xbox1 release date.(watch_dogs for 1)

at times I think Nintendo are between a rock and a hard place with the Wii U.

One of the main things I don't understand about Nintendo, that they are sitting on the licence of one of the biggest cartoon franchises of the past 20 years (Pokemon) and yet have completely failed to support it on anything other than their handheld devices. I really dont get it.

If they made a full on 3d game for the Wii U it would sell loads.

Exactly! I've heard game freak, the people who make pokemon games, flat out refuse to make a console version because 'it belongs on hand held'. If nintendo made a fully 3D multiplayer pokemon game it would fly off the shelves, especially in Japan.

This, this and this!

I too would love to see a 'proper' Pokémon on the Wii U. But on the Nintendo forum I frequent has the owner of Serebii.net (massive Pokémon fan site) and he just will not entertain the idea due to that stupid reason... I just cant' understand why...

Thing is the new IP's I saw from Nintendo are just more of the same, the Toad game looked like a clone of Mario and that Splatoon is kids running round shooting paintball guns, they'll likely be good games but they didn't really have a game that looked like it would shift units, which is what they really need right now.

Eh?? A clone of a Mario game... where Mario can't jump and moving the area around is just as important as moving the character around... oh yeah that Mario game!?

Aaaaaand a lot of people (even those odd bods at NeoGaf) have Splatoon as one of (if not the) games of E3!

That's all very well and the first party games will continue to come for a few years but unless they try and draw in a different audience to the one they already have (which none of the games they showed are going to do) there will continue to be very, very little third party support and the console will ultimately fail as a result.

Have to agree. I wrote a big post somewhere saying that they have spent too much time playing to the same audience with no new ideas. The new Zelda game will shift units but again to the same audience. Its too little to late i think. The PS4 and XB1 are so far in front that if Nintendo were to bring out a string of original games it still wouldnt rescue it from the console abyss.

They should focus on there next console being an all powerful machine and bring out the fanboy games (Zelda,Metroid,Mario etc) for the WiiU to bridge the gap until there new console comes out. forget trying to find the next Gimmick (motion sensor, gamepad etc) and go for the sheer power of the console to at least equal sony and microsoft.

agree with both of you there, given what I read yesterday from one of there leading guys..Reggie Fils-Aime(http://www.computerandvideogames.com/468437/wii-u-is-currently-second-place-in-console-war-says-fils-aime/ ), they seem to think their 2nd in the race atm....while I think in a sense they might/are....it wont be long until their knock off that by MS

Personally I think they need to go back from all the gimmick stuff, and go to what made them good in the first place back in the day.

Though I cant see that happen with some of the dinosaurs that are running Nintendo atm..

but that pad/screen thing/tea tray is still there....and going by "casual gamers etc" some seem to think the Wii U is just an add on sort of thing to the Wii  :o

i laughed when I heard that too.  lol

also...thing that annoys me with E3...is the fact they show stuff off then we suddenly get a "delayed until 2015/16 thing" about a month later.

My point was that Nintendo introduced all those things one by one on subsequent controllers... each was 'a gimmick' at the time but now are standard.

Ooh I forgot rumble as well!
