Everybody's doing the 3-5-2

I'd say that a defensive mid that provides cover for the wingbacks is essential too and we don't have one (that's good enough).

Not essential, we could easily convert 3 box to box midfielders like DD, James and King into a very good 3 man midfield in a 532 as they all break up play win the ball back and come forwards with it. Essential are the wing backs, they make the formation work by effectively being full backs and wingers.

The problem is a 532 with the players we have would mean no place Mahrez nor Albrighton and even Knocky as part of the midfield 3 would leave us too lightweight. NP hasn't bought the players for a 532, but he has got the players for a 442, 433, 4231. We will most likely play a 424 with the ball, and 451 without it like we did last season, whether this overall equates to 442, 4231 or whatever I don't know I will leave it for the pundits to decide, as long as our players know exactly what they are doing in every game it doesn't matter if it isn't in a conventional formation.

I'd argue it was ugly and not even effective. I remember us playing it three times - Middlesbrough away, 1 down at half time and we switched to a 4-4-2 (correct me if I'm wrong) in the second half and turned the game around. Leeds at home - one of three games all season we failed to score in against a side who proved to be their usual midtable selves, Birmingham at home where we did end up winning the game - but we scored three late goals, was that possibly down to a formation change again?

It does absolutely nothing for me. I'd happily play it if we had the players but we don't.

I thought that as well. Surely if you're losing a central midfielder you're stronger somewhere else on the pitch. The game evolves all of the time and I don't get why people play to almost follow a trend.

It makes me laugh how people bang on about Holland like they won the World Cup. Neither finalist played 3-5-2 at any point during the tournament.

It's almost as bad as the people who think De Laet should play right wing ffs.

Leicester City: Nigel Pearson won't stick to a rigid 4-4-2 this season

Flexible: Nigel Pearson

)

Leicester City must be flexible to deal with the challenge of the Premier League, manager Nigel Pearson has said.

City took on Rotherham last night in their penultimate pre-season friendly, and Pearson used the game to give a number of his side a full 90 minutes as they prepare for the opening Premier League game of the season at home to Everton in 10 days time.

As well as fitness, Pearson has also been using the pre-season schedule to look at various formations and he admits he wants as many tactical options as possible ahead of City's first Premier League campaign for a decade.

City utilised several different formations last season en route to the Championship title, but predominantly they used a 4-4-2 formation.

However, Pearson said he should not be tagged as a rigid 4-4-2 manager.

"From time to time we will have to use different formations," he said.

"I do get a little bit bemused how people pigeon-hole you as a manager or us as a team. We have played a lot of 4-4-2 football but we played a number of different formations last season.

"Clearly there will be times in the year when we have to find the right way of playing that gives us the best chance of winning games or being a problem for other sides.

"We will go into it with a method of how we do that but, ultimately, the spirit we have within the camp will help.

"Of course, you can't achieve anything on spirit alone, we will need a level of performance."

Pearson is certainly confident that his players will be able to rise to the challenge of facing the elite of English football.

"Our players are pretty upbeat about the prospects of playing in the Premier League," he said.

"We have a tough start, I know, but that is what we are here to do.

"We have worked hard to get ourselves there and now we want to give a good account of ourselves.

"Pre-season is about preparation and being competitive as a squad."

Our strength is in wide areas with Mahrez, knockaert and albrighton. And our full backs. So I wouldn't mind playing against 352.

442 and 4231 will be what we playing most this season but they are both variations of the same thing.

I would argue we played 4231 for large parts last year with nugent dropping deep.
