A government report just released provides for the first time a comprehensive official history of Britain's biological weapons trials between 1940 and 1979. It's sad to say really that the greatest scientific advancements (in terms of the discoveries themselves and the speed at which they're made) are made when there's a real reason for human beings to want to kill each other in vast numbers - wartime, in other words.
