An Away Move Posted 5 October 2014 Posted 5 October 2014 I have been to every game so far, bar Stoke away. Our start to the season has been immense and beyond what we could have really expected so perhaps the following is rather too nitpicking? Schlupp: It's a good job Schlupp was so close to goal for his goal because I fear any further out he would have lashed it over. He has speed and I want him to do well but, bloody hell, how frustrating can he be? Hammond: Done a good job for us as a utility player. But so painfully slow in picking the right pass at the right time. Why is he still in the team? How many other Premier League squads would he get in? Nugent: Bar the one on one at Chelsea. I can't remember him looking like he might score. Good at running and harrying opposition though. Sounds brutal, but if I were manager, a job I am not qualified to do in reality! They'd all be replaced in Jan. Hopefully we'd be able to attract players we wouldn't have been able to get in the summer, now we have been in the shop window and most seem to think we'll stay up. Not a foregone conclusion actually based on last two performances, even if we could have been sitting 5th last night until that free kick.
davieG Posted 5 October 2014 Posted 5 October 2014 I don't think Nugent is the problem as I believe he brings the best out of both Ulloa and Vardy. Ulloa and Vardy struck me as totally incompatible it was like they were playing for two different teams with acres of space between them. Both really need to be the forward striker with someone, Nugent/Knocky playing a support role.
An Away Move Posted 5 October 2014 Author Posted 5 October 2014 We aren't going to win many second balls in midfield from Kasper's long kicks either if anyone other than Hammond or Drinkwater are involved. You could hear the fans frustration at the last two games in this respect. Why not distribute more smartly every time instead? I do understand the long ball to Ulloa, but big defenders like at the Palace game completely nullified us in this respect.

Nick Powell maybe deserves a go at that because Nugent just doesn't offer enough of a goal threat for me to warrant a place. I also think we maybe need to give Ulloa and Vardy a few more games before suggesting they're incompatible

Did they even pass the ball to each other more than once.
Stadt Posted 5 October 2014 Posted 5 October 2014 With Ulloa and Vardy it was like we were playing 4-4-0-2, I'm not Nuge's biggest fan but he is effective at linking Ulloa/Vardy with the midfield.

Did they even pass the ball to each other more than once. No, but both had below par games yesterday, especially Ulloa. I think given time they'll come good and are most certainly our best two forwards.
suffolk fox Posted 5 October 2014 Posted 5 October 2014 Quite simply Hammond is nowhere near good enougth. What Np sees in him is beyond me. Gets in in front of Cambiasso, James and King. It's wrong and shocking. Nowhere near good enough in the championship starts every game in the premiership? THe amount of times he is out of position, too slow and passes to noone. Gave the incentive back to Burnley second half yesterday with his pass back and sideways thinking, along with others was culpable he has to be dropped, guess what though he won't be.

The strange thing is, I'm pretty certain that Pearson too rates Drinkwater, James, Cambiasso more highly than Hammond. I'm sure given time, he won't be starting games. That's my only ever criticism of Pearson, that he sometimes uses sentiment to select a player. Hammond's done pretty well for us in the absence of our first choice midfielders, and Pearson rewarded him for that. Perhaps yesterday Pearson thought it would be a easier game than it ended up, and that he'd allow Hammond to play instead of the better equipped James. Not sure
