Surely taking a corner is the same in every league

Recommended Posts

But when you're a struggling team, that's 6 chances to put an Un - opposed ball into the penalty area.... and we can't do it. Some of our corners have quite honestly been pitiful.

could just be a coincidence but we are currently ranked 9th on average corners won in a game, all of the teams who have won more then us except 1 (palace) are currently in the top 8 of the league

Corners aren't as prolific for everyone else as we all may think. That doesn't excuse hitting the first man or not attacking well.

We're also very unimaginative. I know that they didn't score, but thought Sunderland were clever with their set pieces at our place. Clearly work had been done and it they'd put one in they'd have nicked 3 points. It's a get out of jail free card and we just don't use it. It's pretty obvious what we're about to do from any set piece. Cambiasso seems to be trying to change that at least.

We have been quite poor at set pieces for sometime, often failing to put the goal keeper under any real pressure yet we have been very poor at defending set pieces, maybe due to height or perhaps due to other teams getting it right.

Considering the players get to watch videos of positioning and all the other stuff that goes into prepping for matches you'd think it would not be such a long standing problem.

If we had a big team and people who could actually attack the ball in the air we'd score from set pieces.

Problem is, we are quite a small team.

Sometimes the delivery is shocking, sometimes it is actually put into very good areas but our players are either nowhere near it or fail to direct a free header on goal. The second pisses me off more than anything!

Agreed. Wasyl, King and Morgan usually the culprits for the second part.
