ADK Posted 10 May 2015 Posted 10 May 2015 It's a car circuit, so Rosberg must have the faster set-up. The question is whether he has a genuinely better set up or only went for 1-lap pace. Looks like Ferrari are a good 0.5s behind the Mercs and Torro Rosso have the 4th fastest car on the grid. McLaren making progress but still miles behind the front.
Wycombe Fox Posted 10 May 2015 Posted 10 May 2015 that Vettel pit stop was insane. Not as insane as Alonso's
iamafox Posted 10 May 2015 Author Posted 10 May 2015 I only saw the last few laps, pretty routine stuff.
isaidno Posted 10 May 2015 Posted 10 May 2015 Dull race really. Roll on Monaco, can't wait to be there
iamafox Posted 11 May 2015 Author Posted 11 May 2015 Vandoorne has made a flying start to the GP2 season, finishing on the podium in every feature and sprint race so far.
Amin Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 Vandoorne has made a flying start to the GP2 season, finishing on the podium in every feature and sprint race so far. He's a phenomenal talent. Both of the races he won, he was on the less than optimal strategy yet he clawed himself to victory. He's had every GP2 pole since Belgium last year.

He's had every GP2 pole since Belgium last year. Might be too early to say this but I'd be very surprised if he doesn't land an F1 seat in 2016. If he can keep his momentum going I think one or two of the midfield runners will be enticed to sign him up, only if Alonso and Button stay at McLaren next season. Potentially he's the next Bianchi.

He should be in F1 this year really but there was no where decent to put him. Maybe Force India next year.
isaidno Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 The problem is there's no free seats , and he's behind Magnussen in the Mclaren pecking order.
Amin Posted 15 May 2015 Posted 15 May 2015 Quite a few new proposals for 2016 and 2017 have been discussed today by the F1 Strategy Group: Free tyre compound choice 2016 1000bhp power units 2017 Wider tyres 2017 Car weight reduction 2017 Unspecified aerodynamics changes 2017 Refuelling 2017 http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/118991 All of this is an effort to drop lap times by 5-6 seconds and to spice up the "show" (ugh). I have a feeling that this years crop of LMP1 prototypes have got F1 looking over its shoulder.
ADK Posted 15 May 2015 Posted 15 May 2015 I'd love the cars to be closer to the limits of development again but I do hope it is genuinely safe. Rather goes against the recent trends and I hope it isn't a sign of desperation. Do people want fast cars or more competitive races though?
iamafox Posted 15 May 2015 Author Posted 15 May 2015 F1 needs to be more interesting again. I do hope those incoming rule changes will mean just that. But what pisses me off is when you have a small number of races in a boring season that were exciting or ones to remember, some of the F1 pundits say silly stuff like 'Who said F1 was boring' or 'this is why F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport'. To me they are clueless and know nothing about the sport.

What I've also seen in recent years: Mediocre drivers buying their way into F1 New tracks that are bland and have no personality being added to the calendar

If the changes make F1 better than it is now then I'll settle for that. But if the sport becomes dangerous then there will be cries from some F1 related people to make it safer again, thus becoming boring as it is currently. I don't know how the FIA are going to find the right balance between safety and entertainment.

I don't know how the FIA are going to find the right balance between safety and entertainment. Trouble is, people have differing views as to what is better. Refuelling will almost certainly reduce overtaking and with fuel limited to 100kg, it seems a little odd because the difference in lap time between a brimmed fuel tank and almost empty will be quite small. It will also dampen the "undercut" effect, with the old tyres and refuelling you had an "overcut", but with softer tyres and less fuel it might more or less even out.
isaidno Posted 19 May 2015 Posted 19 May 2015 I'm heading out to Monaco tomorrow. The weather forecast for the weekend looks pretty grim , lots of rain
