davieG Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 http://www.bbc.com/capital/story/20150216-my-taxes-go-where Each year, like clockwork, the dreaded taxman cometh and taketh. But where, exactly, do your taxes go? Which countries spend more on security than education? And which nation allocates a larger proportion of its gross domestic product to environmental protection than any other EU-28 country? BBC Capital, together with IIB Studio, took a close look at tax spending amongst 10 countries and some surprises emerged. Scroll down to see how these 10 governments spend your tax dollars.
Guest MattP Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 Obama's promises on 'defense' spending is another one we can toss in the toilet then along with Healthcare and Guantanamo Bay. What does servicing the interest on debt come under? If it continues at current rates it will overtake Healthcare and Welfare as the thing we spend on the most on around 2019-20.
Spiritwalker Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 The tax breakdown is very interesting, very similar for most counties apart from Israel and USA.
Finnegan Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 I love "defense" as a euphemism for "attacking half the planet."
Guest MattP Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 I love "defense" as a euphemism for "attacking half the planet." Terrific isn't it, and in true US style the one time where they probably should be attacking a part of the planet they aren't.
bovril Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 I think US defence is more in the Wasilewski mold than, say, Franco Baresi. Terrific isn't it, and in true US style the one time where they probably should be attacking a part of the planet they aren't. Nuneaton?
Finnegan Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 I think US defence is more in the Christiano Ronaldo mold than, say, Franco Baresi. Nuneaton?
Guest MattP Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 I think US defence is more in the Wasilewski mold than, say, Franco Baresi. Nuneaton? Sol Bamba.Looks good for a bit then you realise it's in the wrong place, a total bombscare inflicting mass casualties resulting from friendly fire.
Finnegan Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 Sol Bamba. Looks good for a bit then you realise it's in the wrong place, a total bombscare inflicting mass casualties resulting from friendly fire. I was going for costs billions, racks up a ridiculously high count and never actually "defends."
Finnegan Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 So France must be Matt Upson. No no. David Luiz. Full of flair, personality and poncy hair but ultimately has to rely on someone else to do his defending for him.
Vacamion Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 No wonder Italy and Greece are in the crapper. They pay less tax and less as a percentage. Rather than sending Euros, the Germans should be exporting tax inspectors....
