and they were massively better players. Not sure any of our current lot would of started in an Oneil team,Huth maybe?

 

Quite a few would.

 

O'Neill made some brilliant signings originally but his best buys were average after that.

 

He got in Flowers, Elliott, Taggart, Guppy, Lennon and Izzet who were exceptional for us.

 

Then average buys like Cottee, Savage, Sinclair and Impey.

 

And some poor ones like Gunnarlaugson, Fenton, Eadie.

 

Even at our peak we always had some weak links like Oakes, Campbell or Wilson in the first XI
