chrishlcfc Posted 17 March 2015 Posted 17 March 2015 Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on this. I look at the team now and I can't see anyone who really gets stuck in and nobody I don't think this year has really put there body on the line. You look at players that we have had in the past, people like Elliott, Walsh or Taggart etc they would give absolutely 100% and more in to play for City, I just don't see anybody who does that in our current side, ok everybody try's there best but no one goes the extra mile and puts themselves about like the above players did in there time here. Anyone else think this?
SecretPro Posted 17 March 2015 Posted 17 March 2015 Apart from Was there is a lack of aggression sometimes on the pitch and now Was has been benched I'm hoping Huth will take up where Was left off.
AKCJ Posted 17 March 2015 Posted 17 March 2015 I wouldn't say too nice but I would definitely say that we're too naive. We could have lost on saturday because we just let N'Doye take that quick freekick. Stuff like that has cost us a lot of points this season.
ChrisWoodIsClass Posted 17 March 2015 Posted 17 March 2015 was put aggression in and tbf morgan has made quite a lot of blocks but i agree, sometimes the players don't look commited
Donut Posted 17 March 2015 Posted 17 March 2015 The team lacks a bit of everything. Not sure whether being more ugly would necessarily have helped though.
Stadt Posted 17 March 2015 Posted 17 March 2015 We're shit because the players aren't good enough and the manager isn't good enough, not because we don't get enough yellow cards
Fox42 Posted 17 March 2015 Posted 17 March 2015 The aggressor of the midfield was Hammond but because he's effective, he's on the bench...
Donut Posted 17 March 2015 Posted 17 March 2015 Plus, would Pearson be able to handle journalist claims that we are an ugly team? He didnt take too kindly to the "surrounding the referee" question. Might become another flashpoint.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 17 March 2015 Posted 17 March 2015 If we were a lot more aggressive, people would say we're far too aggressive and it costs us. Just not good enough.
Mike Oxlong Posted 17 March 2015 Posted 17 March 2015 Plus, would Pearson be able to handle journalist claims that we are an ugly team? He didnt take too kindly to the "surrounding the referee" question. Might become another flashpoint. As for us being an ugly team, Konchesky somehow made it into the Premiership best looking XI as voted for by US women. Matty James in there too. De Laet in the Ugly Bugs XI though http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/row-zed/giroud-crowned-premier-leagues-hottest-5144632
Donut Posted 17 March 2015 Posted 17 March 2015 Fair play to the mods again, for removing yet another AKCJ post that added nothing constructive to the discussion and was only a personal vendetta fuelled jibe. There really is no need. Its opinions people.
lgfualol Posted 18 March 2015 Posted 18 March 2015 Wasyl is our scary player but he has been dropped for fragile Upson. King Power isn't exactly a scary place for other teams, that doesn't help much.
Guest MattP Posted 18 March 2015 Posted 18 March 2015 We certainly don't have a fear factor of any part of our game like we did under MON. Not sure if being cruder and uglier would have too much effect though - we're clearly struggling due to a lack of creativity when playing poorer teams. We're certainly very very naive though.
Monsell1976 Posted 18 March 2015 Posted 18 March 2015 Apart from Was there is a lack of aggression sometimes on the pitch and now Was has been benched I'm hoping Huth will take up where Was left off.Would like to see them both in together, would more than hold their own.For me was is far better than upson and Morgan, and just cannot see why one of our most consistent performers, has been dropped for two inferior players.

He didnt take too kindly to the "surrounding the referee" question. Might become another flashpoint. Pearson doesn't like any football related questions, he's on his I'm going to be arrogant, and defensive mode, and it's like getting blood out of a stone, than getting an answer of any note
Burbage Fox Posted 18 March 2015 Posted 18 March 2015 Sorry but I don't think we are too nice, we are just not good enough!!
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 18 March 2015 Posted 18 March 2015 I thought this on Saturday after the Bruce tackle. At the time the tackle looked a lot worse than it was and that referee was so bad that he could quite easily have given a red card for it with some persuasion from our players. Bruce complained about our players trying to get his son sent off but it you look at the time between the tackle and the time the yellow card came out there were 5 Hull players surrounding the ref telling him not to send Bruce off. In that time the decision of the referee could quite easily have been swayed away from producing the red card, just as it could have been persuaded for the red had our players got round him. I'm not saying it's right and the Chelsea vs PSG incident was not nice to see but we're not fighting on a level playing field at the moment, we're a worse team than most in the league at the moment so we have to try and level the playing field whenever we can. There's a difference between going in with a pre-set mindset to try and exploit the referee as Chelsea did and in reacting in a way that influences the referee when there could conceivably be a red card produced. We're not very 'street smart' at times it has to be said.
ozvaldo Posted 18 March 2015 Posted 18 March 2015 Was has shown his obvious nastiness (albeit for the good of the team) - and he regularly gets away with the odd flying elbow or body check to slow down an opposition's attack - and this has helped us a few times. I'd like see him start a few more games in place of Wes. We don't really have many other players who readily put themselves on the line, unless we're in deep sh1t and then you'll see Wes throw himself at a ball. I think we miss a bully in midfield - like a Savage of old, just getting in the opposition's faces, breaking stuff up and being a real pest. (I think he's a bit of an arse now, but when he played for us, he really was a good player to have on your team). I think a lot of our midfielders are quite 'lightweight' in this department - i'd say players like Hammond, King, and to a degree Drinky & Cambiasso wouldn't put themselves on the line - James has shown a few times his willingness to get 'stuck in'. Mahrez & Knocky - No chance. Having someone just doing all the dog work and really putting in tough but fair challenges in the midfield would open up opportunities for Cambiasso/James/Drinky to be more creative, and I think we've really missed this 'bully' type player this season.
Fox92 Posted 18 March 2015 Posted 18 March 2015 People can cover it up all they want but the simple answer is we are not good enough. As for Walsh, Elliott, Taggart, Lennon etc it seemed like they were players that would die for the club and no we don't have that anymore.
Claridge Posted 18 March 2015 Posted 18 March 2015 People can cover it up all they want but the simple answer is we are not good enough. As for Walsh, Elliott, Taggart, Lennon etc it seemed like they were players that would die for the club and no we don't have that anymore. and they were massively better players. Not sure any of our current lot would of started in an Oneil team,Huth maybe?
smudgerfox Posted 18 March 2015 Posted 18 March 2015 I think the main difference between us and the top six is ability. They all have multi players in every position who can play easily at Prem level and who can win a Prem game. The main difference between us and the rest is a combination of naivety, inexperience, lack of game "nouse" , timidity and lack of a ruthless streak. You don't look at the Palace or Newcastle teams and think wow they are so much better man-for-man than us, but they have pPrem-experienced players who know how to play the margins. They don't gift goals at important points of the match, they don't get booked unnecessarily, they waste time, they appeal for penalties and give a general impression of being hard done to, and they take a higher proportion of what few chances they create.. They defend set plays well and carry a threat from set plays at the other end. This iis Pearson's failing.
Silverdaz Posted 18 March 2015 Posted 18 March 2015 The aggressor of the midfield was Hammond but because he's effective, he's on the bench... Err he has only just come back from injury thats why he has not been playing but carry on with your conspiracy theories of every players whos not playing must of had a falling out
LAprice_ Posted 18 March 2015 Posted 18 March 2015 It seems that 90% of the time that Ulloa gets stuck in, the ref blows for a foul. Wes, Wasyl and Huth have all used their physical strength to their advantage. Morgan vs Lukaku at the start of the season comes to mind. James gets stuck in and so does Konchesky, both resulting in debatable red card decisions. Vardy constantly lunges in to tackles, like vs Westwood at Villa park for example. I don't think we're too nice, it just seems that we're not very good at being mean. We are aggressive, but not effective.
