Has anyone seen Ricky Gervais' new show Extras? It's hilarious last episode starts in 20 minutes if you get the chance watch it.

yeh its alright, i wouldnt say its one of the better sitcoms though. has anyone ever noticed that there are loads of sitcoms that only ever manage 1 series due to low viewing numbers.

"Acording to Bex" is one that i remember, that was quality

I voted The Office I would pick Fawlty Towers second so i'm glad to see that winning.

Can't believe Only Fools and Horses is in second place, Only fools and horse was good but its just repeated and repeated and repeated, and its just overrated I think.

This is something I fear will happen to The Office because there was only 2 series of The Office they will repeat it soooo many times. To be honest they repeat Fawlty Towers alot because there was so little episodes of the made but for me personally I can and could watch The Office and Fawlty Towers repeats over and over, unlike Only Fools and horse.

So many good ones, overall the best has to be Only Fools and Horses. How a sitcom can continously be funny despite having so many episodes is beyond me and highlights how good John Sullivan wrote it. The way he writes the emotional bits yet still makes them funny is superb too.

Fawlty Towers is probably the most intensely funny sitcom around. Its a laugh with practically everything that has said, but saying that I don't think it would have standed any more than the 12 episodes that there were.

As for modern day sitcoms, for me I couldn't pick a winner out of Phoenix Nights and The Office. The style of cringeworthy comedy that Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant write is fantastic and gets me watching it over and over again. However Phoenix Nights and even Max and Paddy although not to the same extent, have some classic moments in the series and some brilliant quotes that you can have a laugh at over and over again at work.

As far as some of the others go, I know I'll probably get crucified for this but sitcoms such as Father Ted and 2 Pints of Lager I don't rate. They just seem like a very tacky style of comedy.

Anyway overall, its gotta be fools n'horses for me as the "best" sitcom around.

The Office, Fools and Horses, Fawlty Towers are miles ahead of the others in that list, in my opinion with Blackadder and Father Ted in the reserve team

You're missing Coupling, Yes Minister/Prime Minister and The Royle Family, Thin Blue Line and so on... there's too many to list, which is a shame. lol

They're all pretty good compared to the crap they play on this side of the pond. Thank god I got BBC Canada, least they play a few good comedies - Royle Family, Dead Ringers and Father Ted are the notables at the minute

Only fools and Horses.

Tough choice but that has been around for years and is very funny, in EVERY episode! The last 3 xmas specials havent been great but they are still as funny. Our expectations were just higher because of what we had seen in previous years! Top notch entertainment!

Its definitely between Only Fools and Horses, Blackadder and Red Dwarf but I went for Only Fools and Horses...

That was my original choice but couldn't remeber if it was 2 up 2 down, 1 up 2 down, 2 up 3 down. I got into a bit of a state over it, so gave up trying to remember, and plumped for the classic Home to Roost featuring Reece Dinsdale and John Thaw proving that he can do comedy as well as Morse.

Those were the days....

There were in fact 2 different shows

3 up 2 down starred Michael Elphick, the old bird from "to the maor born", Stewpot from Grange Hill's older brother who is in that Police comedy, and that fit bird who went of to Hollywood and crashed and burned.

2up 2down was a late seventies nonsense, cant remember who was in it, but basically involved two young couples living in a house, the couple that owned it and two hippy squatters living upstairs

No one a fan of Early Doors? Written by Craig Cash who co writ the Royle Family, which is also missing from this poll!! Both are alike but Early Doors is set in a pub. Such an underated comedy.
