Thracian Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 I never said anything of the sort about Levein. I was as critical as the next person about performances etc. Like I said earlier I just want the manager to get a fair crack at the job. I stuck up for him getting more time to prove himself one way or another, I didn't stick up for him. My posts prove it... if anyone want to try and prove me wrong the posts are there to be seen. I certainly never fell for a false dawn, give me 3 wins on the trot and I might get excited. One good performance means nothing. I couldn't agree more with the spin the club give out, i've been critical of it myself. Putting out the same stories again and again just changing the player making the comment is pretty crappy. On this occasion I think the criticism isn't deserved. There was a thread like this the other week, everyone slagging off Kelly for something they thought he said. When infact he hadn't even made the comments people were slagging off it was the mercury reporter. Anything can happen when you speak to one of those!

Can't help but feel that this one worked better and brought people closer together. Everyone is feeling a lot warmer about everything now. Personally, I plan on having Babylons babies now.

Although I do feel criticism of excuse after excuse is acceptable at this point.

Hullfox Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 Seems to me that all arguments/discussions fall into two distinct camps the most vociferous being those who are "anti". Now before the game, given our present position I'd have taken a point. Birmingham are unbeaten in 11 and we are not good. Not sure why people poo poo the virus thing. Why would the club lie about it? Forfar had only had 8 fit players yesterday, two of which were keepers. Now I can't find a Forfar forum but I doubt there'd be such venom on there today following a 7-1(?) defeat. Just because people are happy with a result does not mean they accept everything the club stands for at present. For me, we're a youngish poor championship side who have to field players of the calibre of Andy Johnson because thats where we are. Am I happy about that? No. Do I understand that unless money comes flooding in it will remain that way? Yes Am I up the arse of the club? No Am I in the minority? On these boards yes which seems that it therefore opens me and likeminded individualsup to be ridiculed and insulted. Thankfully there are no cyber stocks to be locked up in.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 I think one of the main problems is that people who are "anti" seem to think anyone who supports Kelly in any way or acknowledges a fairly good result at any time are completely pro-Kelly and the board. Recent performances and results have papered over the cracks but you still have to acknowledge that the draws at both Sunderland and Birmingham were decent results, regardless of the performance, without suddenly having to be proclaimed a Kelly apologist.

I don't think the club are lying about the virus - just using it as a convenience and another excuse not to make painful decisions which mean dropping senior players who are not playing well. We have different philosphies I think. I was happy to take a point at the end but there is no way I'd have taken one at the start. I'd have picked a team to win. And it was simply good fortune that playing the other defensive way didn't cost us another defeat judging by the marks for Logan. But, for what it's worth, I think you always make good and interesting points - even though we invariably disagree.
lookwhaticando Posted 1 October 2006 Author Posted 1 October 2006 I'd still take a point from Birmingham. I'm glad that we did. I'm not thrilled about the way it went down, but a point is a point. I'd have been ecstatic about getting all 3, but oddly enough I still think people would have been less than pleased if we got all 3. Is it worth pointing out we're unbeaten in four? Hardly a glorious run, but we're unbeaten nonetheless - in those four games, we played two relegated sides.

Stomach bug ~ poo poo ~ nice touch I'm not suggesting that the excuse isn't valid, I am just very bored of reading excuses or crap positive spin...and really bored of apologists like Babyone trying to make out that if we close our eyes and click our heels three times everything will OK. It won't.

Recent performances and results have papered over the cracks but you still have to acknowledge that the draws at both Sunderland and Birmingham were decent results, regardless of the performance, without suddenly having to be proclaimed a Kelly apologist. By that apparent definition, we're all extremists. I for one am getting just a little tired of this assumption that anyone that's reasonably happy is somehow a club puppet, or thinks the club is the best-run in the business. I probably fall into that category - I proclaim myself pleased with something that's happened, and somehow I'm branded a happy-clapper. Bit unfair really - I certainly don't think the club is being run as well as it could be and sometimes I think the board is living in a fantasy world - especially when they dream up some of their marketing schemes. Then there's the 'true fan' argument that rattles on every week or so... :pinch:

Agreed All well and good picking up good away points but it's no use if your not going to win your home games.

Hardly a glorious run, but we're unbeaten nonetheless - in those four games, we played two relegated sides. Statistics are funny things. Four games unbeaten, only six goals in 10 matches, still not won away. A bit higher up the table which few expected... Is the cup half full or half empty. But you make a good point about winning three points because, had we stolen a winner through Levi's wrong foot volley or something, it still wouldn't have changed Kelly's conceding the iniative at the off, our generally uninspired performance or that too many of our players seem to be constantly short of their best or ven anything like. I don't know about size but I think performance matters.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 Agreed All well and good picking up good away points but it's no use if your not going to win your home games. Yep
Babylon Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 Stomach bug ~ poo poo ~ nice touch I'm not suggesting that the excuse isn't valid, I am just very bored of reading excuses or crap positive spin...and really bored of apologists like Babyone trying to make out that if we close our eyes and click our heels three times everything will OK. It won't. Right, where exactly have I been an apologist. And where exactly have I said it's all going to be ok. Why is it neither TPH or yourself can have a discussion without a) making derogatory comments about posters who don't share your opinion. We all do it from time to time but it seems like most of the time with you two. b) making up things about other posters to make your argument stronger. So far in this thread apparently I have been told: I "dictate what people can say" "The fact that he laps us these poor performances like a sychophantic wh ore making him a 'better' and more 'loyal' supporter than us.", "If I remember correctly, which I do, you were always one of the Levein apologists. You banged on and on and on about how much he'd done for the club and to be fair he did do a lot for the club, but his results weren't good enough. You fell for every single false dawn. You also lap up all the sh it which the club serves up" "i'm really bored of apologists like Babyone trying to make out that if we close our eyes and click our heels three times everything will OK. It won't." Not a shred of truth in any comment, and all because I think there was bugger all wrong with what Kelly said and it didn't deserve a slagging off. Because I think he should be given more time I get labled a "happy clapper" which is so far from the truth it's laughable. Am I happy about the performances, No. Am I happy with the way the club is run, No. Am I happy with SOME decisions Kelly makes, No. Do I understand why he makes them, Yes. Am I happy with the results of our last four games, Fairly. Am I happy about SOME of the clubs spin, No. Do I want Kelly to have more time, Yes. Do I think i'm more loyal/better fan because I think managers need time, No. Do I thnk if we also close our eyes and hope for the best it'll all be ok, No. Do I think people look for any time excuse to take a pop at the club, Yes. Maybe this will clear up a few things on where I stand as people seem to be misreading what i'm saying.
Thracian Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 Yep We've had serious problems against packed defences and negative visitors throughout Kelly's and Levein's time. But Kelly seems almost as cautious at home as he is away. Colchester was pitiful with Hughes on the right. Apparently he's quite approachable but I'd love to hear our boss try to justify that - journalistic training or not. Johnson was there too - it was like having a duck-four shunter and a jinty tank instead of the Streaks we really need. If we're not careful we'll get a complex about playing at home. He talks about faith but shows none. I never saw Kelly play but I doubt he was an attacker. If kelly wants to make a brave move he should let Beaglehole look after our home team. He does attacking!. Not the halfway house, what if, we've gotta be careful sort. Attacking as in we're going to score some whatever. Not irresponsible attacking. But defenders expected to support just the same as forwards have to help back. Eight players in an around the box until attacks break down. It's nothing revolutionary. Good teams do it all the time but we'll never be good if we have tactics that blunt everyone's abilities apart from defenders.
The People's Hero Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 Stomach bug ~ poo poo ~ nice touch I'm not suggesting that the excuse isn't valid, I am just very bored of reading excuses or crap positive spin...and really bored of apologists like Babyone trying to make out that if we close our eyes and click our heels three times everything will OK. It won't. Spot on. The virus thing is probably true... I've just never heard the club come out with so many excuses, 'limiting factors' or whatever and frankly I don't want to hear it.
The People's Hero Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 Right, where exactly have I been an apologist. And where exactly have I said it's all going to be ok. To that I simply say believe what you want to believe. As for the comments about myself, I think I'll treat them with the contempt that they, and most of the other stuff you post, deserves.

No. Piss taking? Yes. Most of the time? No. This thread? Yes. Which brings us on to the making up things... So far in this thread apparently I have been told: I "dictate what people can say" Not by me "The fact that he laps us these poor performances like a sychophantic wh ore making him a 'better' and more 'loyal' supporter than us.", Not by me "If I remember correctly, which I do, you were always one of the Levein apologists. "i'm really bored of apologists like Babyone trying to make out that if we close our eyes and click our heels three times everything will OK. It won't." is something I wrote because you implied with your "moan moan moan" post that I was not allowed to highlight my belief that we were suffering yet another excuse for below par performances. Get a grip. As I pointed out already, the topic was tongue in cheek but u seem to want to persist with some persecution complex. Stop taking the internet so seriously (is something MasterFox once said to great effect).
Babylon Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 As for the comments about myself, I think I'll treat them with the contempt that they, and most of the other stuff you post, deserves. That's good becuase i've been treating yours and Disco Bobs with contemt from the first time you posted on here. The comments I made back themselves up, this thread is living proof of that. Anyone reading in objectivly can see that. Thanks for telling me to believe what I believe... i'd not believed in what I was saying before. Yes I take people making up things that i'm supposed to have said or done pretty seriously.
