davieG Posted 5 October 2005 Posted 5 October 2005 It use to be all about having a good time and sure that would include having a few drinks, and maybe a few too many on occasion. but these days listening to people on here the objective seems to have changed to just drinking as much as you can irrespective of having a good time, in fact that seems to be the measure of a good time. Being drunk doesn't automatically = having a good time to my mind, so why this obsession, why do people say I'm going out to get pissed rather than I'm going out to have a good time. Why are people full of pride at not being able to remember the previous night because they were so pissed, surely it should be about having a good time and having great memories of it, remembering the laughs you've had, the lasses/lads you've met. Signed One very confused observer.
Libertine Posted 5 October 2005 Posted 5 October 2005 Absolutely. All the people at my school are always so proud of themselves because they got pissed etc. And they think this makes them grown up.
john_lcfc Posted 5 October 2005 Posted 5 October 2005 i think people think all drinkers = drunk yobs but its only a small majority wait minority
davieG Posted 5 October 2005 Author Posted 5 October 2005 i think people think all drinkers = drunk yobs but its only a small majority wait minority Well I don't i think drunken yob = drunken yob - my point was why do people aspire to be so pissed/drunk they have no recollection of whether they've been a yob or not.

Thracian Posted 5 October 2005 Posted 5 October 2005 Well I don't i think drunken yob = drunken yob - my point was why do people aspire to be so pissed/drunk they have no recollection of whether they've been a yob or not. Definitely think some people have the need to feel socially included. Therefore if it's the norm for their friends to "have a few jars" or if most of their friends sit around with a fag in their hands they are inclined to do the same because they don't want to stand out and risk being the butt of ridicule. It's a myth, of course, but a powerful one. In my experience, friends accept you for whatever you are. I used to go to a disco at The Hurst in Quorn as a teenager and, being an aspiring sportsman, I was keen to look after myself. I took to drinking pints of iced milk and, eventually the landlord would put half a crate aside for me. Apart from some light-hearted banter, no-one took more than passing interest, except that, in the end, several others were having milk put by. One of my sisters even took to drinking pints from jars because all her friends in the darts team were lads and they all had jars. She felt more at ease than with a small glass. To this day, though she hates it, she cannot kick the habit of smoking which was the result of the same thing. I love a pint of real ale as some of you know, occasionally I'll have two, but I drink it cos I like it and it is a bonus that it always makes me good humoured. I certainly like it even more in good company but I still wouldn't think twice about ordering a soft drink if that was how I felt. I think it's just a pity people don't stand up for their indivudality more - both in the pub and in life generally. If your friends can't take you being "different" to them then they are not very good friends. Most won't give a toss what you do, what you drink, whether or not you smoke so long as they like your company. Worst of all is pouring pints down the gullet and then being sick. What the hell is the point of paying £16 a gallon for ale and then not being able to keep it down - or keep it up!!!

frenchy_lcfc Posted 5 October 2005 Posted 5 October 2005 It is something which comes from the Anglo-Saxon mentality. Is that a true Fact???????
Muz Posted 5 October 2005 Posted 5 October 2005 I like to go out get plastered TRY and pull a bird and not remember anything about it the next day. What a night
Steven Posted 5 October 2005 Posted 5 October 2005 Is that a true Fact??????? I believe it to be as the worst countries I have seen for drinking have been Anglo-Saxon based, except perhaps for Germany but they by and large are loud rather than punchy.
Foxy Posted 5 October 2005 Posted 5 October 2005 I dont know what the fuss is about, i'm 18 and dont drink much. I dont enjoy being sick, thats probably why I avoid it. I always agree to go out with mates to 18ths and gigs and stuff, but 'other stuff comes up' Plus I like drinking Vodka and Coke, so its a not a cheap time if I do go out Then there was nearly getting my face kicked in for chatting my cousins gf up, while hammering him at FIFA 2003! Feeling 'obliged' to do it is a lame excuse! I dont do anything I dont want to do
FNQ Posted 5 October 2005 Posted 5 October 2005 Then there was nearly getting my face kicked in for chatting my cousins gf up, while hammering him at FIFA 2003! Fair enough really. I am self obsessed with getting drunk.
City Fan Posted 5 October 2005 Posted 5 October 2005 I just don't see the point of forking out loads of dosh, make a prat of yourself, throw up, and the only memory of it is that big gap in your wallet the next day.
FNQ Posted 5 October 2005 Posted 5 October 2005 that big gap in your wallet the next day. Then you know you've had a good night.
City Fan Posted 5 October 2005 Posted 5 October 2005 Then you know you've had a good night. Well yeah perhaps, but you won't remember a thing of it! So not much point really.
Katy Posted 5 October 2005 Posted 5 October 2005 Ive never really been obsessed with getting drunk, I actually have a better time without the pop. Red Bull on the rocks gives me the required buzz I need
TrickyTrev Posted 5 October 2005 Posted 5 October 2005 It makes having a good time easier. Whats wrong with that?

Scarby Posted 5 October 2005 Posted 5 October 2005 If people on here cant go out without having a beer then i feel for you! Why do you feel you need a drink just to have a good time you must be a really boring person if the only time you can have a laff is 4 pints of Fosters down your neck. I suggest seeking an AA meeting!
