Why the obsession with getting Drunk

Recommended Posts

... my point was why do people aspire to be so pissed/drunk they have no recollection of whether they've been a yob or not.

This is a question I have been asking myself since I came over to England (when I shared a house with several English university students).

I still don't have an answer so I would really like it if someone could come up with a good, satisfying reply on here.

Because they think it's big and clever, when actually they're looking like idiots. <_< :P;)

Being geeky is part of Ross's charm, so why would he ever want to give that up? :P:):D:thumbup:

For me, drunkedness loses your inhibitions, and you find it easier to express yourself and become more confident. Don't get me wrong, I'm not your typical drunken lout who will consume silly amounts, but I like to enjoy a number of drinks when I'm out, which makes the experience more enjoyable.

I'm not very good at getting drunk. I tend to fall asleep after a few. Can be embarrassing when at a night club. Those days are long gone now. When I was younger, even after a few pints I was still the shy and reserved person I have always been. Something held me back from making a fool of myself. When my mates were larking about (eg. using a shopping trolley as a mode of transport) I was aware of what they were doing may have looked foolish to some and kept at a safe distance.

Been out tonight to a CAMRA meeting. Two pints in the Globe and one in the Ale Wagon plus a pizza on the way home. I am not drunk and have enoyed myself. I am a little tired tho cos I went bed at about 2.30 and was up at 8/ Silly really cos I'm on holiday. Should have had a lie in. .lol

Anyway I feel the trend towards drinking for the sake of it amongst younger people is worrying. It seems though that there are some young 'uns on here that are sensible.

I may be an old fart, but an old fart knows what an arsehole looks like because it lingers longer. lol

You don't need drink for that, you silly, silly fool.

This topic reminds me of Booze Britain on Bravo. Anyone who thinks getting paralytic is great should watch this. I think it's hilarious, but not for the same reasons as those who willingly appear on it.

Getting drunk is another issue that alot of people struggle to deal with. Older people might struggle to understand why this generation feels the need to go out and get absolutely leathered, but then this generation would have the same feelings about some of the stuff done by the older generation back in their day. Infact from what I gather people have been getting drunk for many years, it's just that in this day and age when times have changed there seems to be a bigger market for it and alot more bars/clubs have opened which loosely attracts this generation to spend a fair bit oftime in there.

I often go out drinking and more often than not i'll end up drunk. I won't fight anyone, I won't commit any crimes, all i'll do is spend my hard earned money on something that can make me feel good and is all part of the experience when your on a night out. Some people prefer not to drink that much when they go out, some do. Some drink and they get violent, some drink and it makes them do stupid things. Often or not it's not the drink that's the root cause but the character of the person drinking it. This is where the youth of today are getting a bad name, it's widely regarded that the youth of today are a bunch of drunken louts and I agree there are a proportion that are but there's also a large proportion that isn't.

Regarding 'the need to get pissed to have a good time' isn't the really case. I honestly don't think people have to get drunk to have a good time, but they choose to do it because it's what they enjoy doing. For most people drinking isn't a problem to them, they choose to do or not to do it. A little bit like turning a tap on or off, it's not an obsession or an addiction. Drinking only becomes a problem if you cannot choose when to do it or not to do it, like all other addictions.

The term 'going out on the piss' what's wrong with that? It's only like knowing your gonna have a shag and say 'i'm gonna blow my load' because ultimately you are and if you don't then you won't have enjoyed yourself no doubt!

I love my alcohol ;)

Love going down to the pub and getting drunk with a group of mates. Obviously dont like not knowing what im doing but i think im sensible enough most of the time to know when to stop.

If something really pisses me off and annoys me i tend to drink more but ah well im a uni student ;)

And have a laugh beyond what I can when I don't drink (we are all different and this is the case for me)
