Time for a Takeover Saga at Wolves?

Recommended Posts

Graeme Souness claims to have made a bid of 20 million quid to take control of Wolves, subject to seeing the club accounts.

Jez Moxey denies such a bid was tabled.

Souness was a guest of Wolves on New Years Day, and that's probably what got people interested.

Yet another Takeover Saga. It's been a good year for takeovers so far.

20 Million for Wolves would be a bargain they are arguably worth more than Leicester!

They've been run by a lunatic for years, spends millions trying to get them into the prem but spends sod all once they are there!

Haha - so would he be owner and manager?

Doubtful he'd do both. Quinn @ Sunderland showed, quite clearly, that it's not clever to combine roles. lol

He's just fronting a consortium by the looks of it, so he may or may not be chairman of the club should he take over.

Perhaps he's decided fronting a consortium to buy a club is an easier way of getting back into club management than wait around for someone to actually offer him a job based on merit.

A real puzzler this one !

Surely he's got no-where near this amount of money....

As massive risk if you ask me.

Graeme Souness has claimed he did make a £20m bid to take control of Wolves, despite the club denying the story.

Chief executive Jez Moxey had earlier dismissed reports that the former Liverpool boss had shown an interest in buying Wolves from Sir Jack Hayward.

But Souness told the Express & Star newspaper: "I don't know why Jez Moxey is saying these things.

"Last week I made an offer, subject to an examination of the club's books and accounts, of £20m."

Souness has been out of football since being sacked by Newcastle in February 2006.

He has been linked with a return to management at Crystal Palace but he has instead turned his attentions to a £20m Molineux buy-out - the figure that Hayward recently put on the Championship outfit.

It is not true that we are in negotiations with Graeme Souness or anyone connected to him

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey

Souness, who has also managed Rangers and Blackburn, added: "I have had several telephone conversations with Sir Jack Hayward and I have spoken as well with Jez Moxey.

"I was told 'no' by Jez Moxey but the offer still stands. It is Sir Jack's football club and if he chooses not to sell it at this time, that's his prerogative. He can do what he wants.

"I have a partner and I see the club having vast potential and I would put more money into it - if I got the opportunity.

"This is not a Johnny Foreigner coming along to make a quick buck. But Jez has told me the offer wasn't acceptable. That's the end of the matter but it is there on the table."

606 DEBATE: Your views on Souness' Wolves bid

When questioned about the reports in the Daily Mirror, Moxey said: "It is not true that we are in negotiations with Graeme Souness or anyone connected to him.

"However, we do not want to conduct our business through the media and, as is company policy, will only comment on important matters when we have something substantive to report."

Souness attended Wolves' game against Barnsley at Molineux on New Year's Day as a guest of the club after meeting Moxey on a flight back from Florida.

Why would Rob Kelly be shoved out? He's doing OK with what we've got... sort of... and even if he did go, who would replace him? I like the ound of Jamie Redknapp! :D

Somewhere along the line you've got that wrapped around yourself. lol

I was talking about Souness - buying a club gives Souness an easy route back into club management, because at the minute he's not getting much of a look-in elsewhere. ;)

Said absolutely nothing about Rob Kelly. ;)

Where did you pluck that figure from? Are Bill anderson's nephew?

Well said, I can't believe that some people honestly think that Wolves are bigger than us.:rolleyes:

If it's history they're talking about, well they had a good spell during the 50's but that's about it. They have spent just one season out of the last 23 in the top division , and during that time they spent two seasons in Division Four.

Also, if Wolves are bigger than us, why has Milan chosen us over them when they were offered to him for about the same price?

Worth more doesn't necessarily mean a bigger club, it's about distribution of funds.

Mandaric is paying off a load of our debt before he's actually putting any money into the club, and it's still costing him 25 million. The 20 million figure is far less debt-trimming and more more of an investment in the club itself, and is a 'better deal', when seen from a certain perspective.

I didn't say that. The point I was making was that, given the choice of us and Wolves, Milan decided that we are the more attractive prospect, which goes some way to showing that we're a bigger club than Wolves if someone of his calibre thinks this.

Don't kid yourselves boy's

It's ok looking at life through blue tinted specs but I think you'll find that Wolves are just as big a club if not a bigger club then Leicester, they are certainly worth more then us!

I doubt you've even been to Wolverhampton never mind Molineux because if you had you'd know how good a stadium it is and lauded often by away fans up and down the country.

The team's average, the stadiums nowhere near as goo as ours and they probably don't have the youth setup we have here.

Take blue tinted specs off and see above post

But they have no debts.

Good stadium??? It's a bit of a crap-hole if you ask me. It's certainly not a really good stadium anyway.

It wouldn't come anywhere near my top 5 Chamionship stadia.
