James. Posted 27 December 2007 Posted 27 December 2007 I played the trumpet for about 10 years. I was pretty f**king good as well. Played at the Albert Hall, Edinburgh Festival, all round Leicestershire, Belgium amongst other exotic destinations. Unfortunately I quit when I went to Uni due to erm other commitments. So I hereby declare myself the first member of The Foxestalk Symphony Orchestra. Who's in?
James. Posted 27 December 2007 Author Posted 27 December 2007 Bongos. Perfect. Can you multi-task on Triangle as well? Good. So we have brass and percussion. This is going well.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 27 December 2007 Posted 27 December 2007 Perfect. Can you multi-task on Triangle as well? Good.So we have brass and percussion. This is going well. I want a couple of cymbals to headbutt as well, a la the hairy bloke out of Ralph Myerz and the Jack Herren Band.

This is a bloody symphony orchestra for god's sake. We'll have none of your crass head butting round here. Oh and instead of bongos it'll have to be Timpani. They're pretty much the same, just a bit bigger and you use sticks instead of hands. Like bongos for geeks.

James. Posted 27 December 2007 Author Posted 27 December 2007 Sounds fun. <_< That could be YOU. Look how much fun he's having.
Finnegan Posted 27 December 2007 Posted 27 December 2007 I'm wagering I'm one of few FoxesTalkers to own a mandolin. Does this get me in by proxy?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 27 December 2007 Posted 27 December 2007 That could be YOU. Look how much fun he's having. That does look like fun. I once got asked to audition for a band at school on the strength of my incredible drumming - using my fingers on the table. Needless to say it was rather more tricky using an actual drum kit and I couldn't manage to factor in the hi-hats and cymbals at all. It was embarrassing. Which was heightened when an actual drummer then walked in and decided to play a solo, after which my mate asked me how long I'd been playing drums. Awful, awful day.
James. Posted 27 December 2007 Author Posted 27 December 2007 I'm wagering I'm one of few FoxesTalkers to own a mandolin. Does this get me in by proxy? Damn right. JTB - Trumpet Fez - Geek Bongos (aka Timpani) Finnegan - Mandolin
James. Posted 28 December 2007 Author Posted 28 December 2007 This isn't going quite as well as I thought. Come on you f**kers don't be embarrassed. We all played a musical instrument at some point. In particular I am looking for a woodwind and strings section. And a composer.
Flynny Posted 28 December 2007 Posted 28 December 2007 I got to grade 1 on trumpet but looks like you've got me slightly beat there. Can I take cowbell?
James. Posted 28 December 2007 Author Posted 28 December 2007 I got to grade 1 on trumpet but looks like you've got me slightly beat there. Can I take cowbell? Ask Fez, he's the principal percussionist. If he says no you can be my understudy.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 28 December 2007 Posted 28 December 2007 Ask Fez, he's the principal percussionist. If he says no you can be my understudy. A fine addition to the percussion arsenal.
Zingari Posted 28 December 2007 Posted 28 December 2007 i can't play anything but i think i could stand on a stool, waving a pointed stick and pulling funny faces ,( i have my own stick)
Jay Posted 28 December 2007 Posted 28 December 2007 I was a keen Drummer in my school days but sold my kit for Beer Money!! I would offer to come out of retirement but the percussion section seems over balanced so I would be willing to retrain in using either of the following.... a digeridoo attached to a bass or a giant Tuba!! The choice is yours
James. Posted 28 December 2007 Author Posted 28 December 2007 i can't play anything but i think i could stand on a stool, waving a pointed stick and pulling funny faces ,( i have my own stick) Having your own stick is the clincher. You are the composer. You have a good name for a composer too. a giant Tuba!! Giant tuba wins. Brass section looking good now.
Zingari Posted 28 December 2007 Posted 28 December 2007 Having your own stick is the clincher. You are the composer. You have a good name for a composer too. The Anvil Chorus (Coro di zingari or gypsy chorus) right i will get to work on the arrangements for this piece with, 1 trumpet, 1 cowbell,1 giant tuba , and big drums; ( should be a doddle) ps i lied about the stick da da da di da. di da di da di da da
Jay Posted 28 December 2007 Posted 28 December 2007 as we only seem to have drums and brass I think we need to recruit some sort of bass and maybe do drum and bass covers in an orchestral stylee!! my nomination for a tune from "back in the day" is Pulp Fiction by Alex Reece which has an excellent trumpet line although we will probably need someone on maracas as well

We are playing Carmina Burana by Carl Orff (a part of which is the one they play in The Omen, big Timpani part to keep Fez happy). (I do know that tune by Alex Reece, bit of a classic isn't it) Recorder? You're in. Woodwind. Perfect.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 28 December 2007 Posted 28 December 2007 Alex Reece's remix of Banstyle by Underworld is fantastic.
James. Posted 28 December 2007 Author Posted 28 December 2007 Alex Reece's remix of Banstyle by Underworld is fantastic. Oooooooooohhhhhh. Very interesting. I'll check that out.
