  1. Yeh I was always delighted to watch them suffer the 7-1 because they were a horrible team and without their referees they’d have gone in the first round. The Croatia game was a joke and they knew they couldn’t beat Colombia for skill so they just kicked them for 90 minutes and never got booked. Similar to Italy they haven’t produced the same quality players since the early 2000s.
  2. No I’m not going to give him a chance.
  3. They could have just said nothing but it’s like they get some sort of commission per lie.
  4. Mexico looked like they were playing with the handbrake on to me.
  5. Some of you should have known this in 2002 with Korea, but back then it was only England who had games fixed against them apparently.
  6. Why are people always desperate to find positives in things. Sometimes things are just shite. I’m comfortable with how shite Russell Martin and this football club are.
  7. Infantino is a caricature of evil on the level of Disney villains, except he has that one quality which makes someone all the more hateful in that he presents himself as a respectable man. Reading just a paragraph of his press conference makes me want to chuck up.
  8. I was always World Cup mad but the last two tournaments in particular have made me uncomfortable to watch. When it was in Russia I was quite politically naive and ignorant but I find it hard to believe anyone can be with this one, American news and social media is impossible to avoid. Anyway, it saddens me I won’t be able to enjoy it when in truth the players should be getting a huge amount of criticism for not boycotting. It’s comfortable to point fingers at a blatantly corrupt authority like FIFA and say well there’s nothing we can do. But it’s a lot harder for people to accept that Messi, Ronaldo and co plus their teammates saying ‘we’re not playing in a fascist country’ would have forced FIFA’s hand. It’s just another reason I can’t enjoy football anymore. These people are ridiculously powerful and privileged and yet they aren’t willing to make even the tiniest stand for the public.
  9. Every manager is a risk. We’ve already tried Steve ‘safe pair of hands’ Cooper and Gary ‘no nonsense’ Rowett. The fact is you can make calculated risks on up and coming managers based on proper research. Which is the club’s job. Which it doesn’t do. I’m not clued up either, but the club should be. Loads of managers are better than Martin, but if they do absolutely no scouting in the lower leagues or abroad then we’ll never know who they are until they are picked up by Brighton or Bournemouth. Well-run clubs take risks on young managers who haven’t reached their ceiling yet. Yes I know I’m a broken record but being in League One is not the excuse for hiring Martin. People were making similar arguments for not attracting good managers in the Championship, even in the PL.
  10. Yes, it’s easy. It’s a shite league with shite teams. Having Southampton’s resources was a massive advantage, and plenty of crap teams get promoted. By default, someone has to get promoted. The National League is far more difficult to get out of. Let’s start scouting there? If you’re suggesting that getting Southampton promoted suggests he has qualities that National League managers don’t, I don’t agree with you. Most managers get where they are by having the right contacts and, in Martin’s case, misguided confidence. Many other average managers would have got Southampton promoted. Loads. They didn’t have the right contacts or didn’t buy enough media clout in order to get the job.
  11. You said it was a ‘problem’. Well it wasn’t a problem for Speedie because he had a good season. So who is the negativity a ‘problem’ for? Is it a problem for King Power and Martin if I don’t give them a chance? Good, hopefully they jog on. It’s not a problem for me. I wish we’d caused more of a problem for Rodgers and Cifuentes and Rowett. We couldn’t possibly be worse off.
  12. Nope, the problem is the opposite. The problem is we have no standards, we are too late to say enough is enough. There’s a clear pattern of that over the years. David Speedie was over 30 years ago and he wasn’t negatively affected at all by the fans’ perception of him so doesn’t that prove you absolutely wrong?
  13. Possession football has never really been about the amount of possession though, it’s the intention. The intention is to have possession, rather than it being a byproduct of other factors as you are suggesting. The thing that really characterises Russell Martin’s style is a lack of intensity and movement off the ball. The aim is to keep the ball, not to score goals. When we were a good side, the aim was to win the ball back and look for the most efficient way to score a goal. That’s the very basis of a good English football team. So it doesn’t matter how much possession we actually have, you can still play with a good tempo and be creative. You don’t have to (and shouldn’t) play at walking pace because you have more of the ball.
  14. Oh how we will eat our words if Martin gets us promoted from the lowest division we’ve ever been in, it will cement his reputation as a genius! Even if we got back to back promotions with this cretin I would still hate him. His style of play is what makes me not want to watch football anymore. He’s feeding you shit and telling you it’s ice cream.
  15. Nah, not having this. There is some jiggery pokery going on. You can say they’re obsessed with a style of football all you like, but that doesn’t explain why they’d overlook how crap Martin’s record is. Every time you think we can’t sink any lower, we do. Any time you imagine the worst case scenario, it happens. Either there are backhanders and laundering going on or this is intentional sabotage. There’s not a chance the club is trying to succeed.
  16. The thing that I can’t ‘unsee’ about modern kits is how short the sleeves are. Just lengthening them so they go all the way to the elbow would make decent shirts look amazing again. And no, football shirts are not supposed to look like or fit like normal clothes.
  17. Well, frankly, if the owners of a community football team are going to use their position as a platform for pro-state propaganda on behalf of their own nation, then they haven’t got a moral leg to stand on. They are not a private business. They are custodians of a local sports team. They ought to remember that. And so should you if you’re defending their clampdown on an individual’s freedom of expression whilst using our club as a mouthpiece for a state.
  18. Nah, sorry, there shouldn’t be any positivity around the club. That’s the problem with it. People think it’s ’a laugh’ to be a League One club with an ownership forcing propaganda down our throats. And Vichai wasn’t your mate either. He liked money more than you.
  19. Definite pen. He’s gone by him and the defender has leaned in to him. It’s not a 50/50 challenge so the defender has no right to lean in to him in that scenario. He’s about to roll it across the 6 yard box. Basically exactly the same as the PSG penalty. Would have been a free kick 100 times out of 100. You can’t shoulder charge when the player has gone by you. There’s been a number of dodgy decisions tonight, mainly the free kicks any time a player holds their face. Otherwise the last hour has been watchable.
  20. No I’m sorry, this doesn’t wash. There is no way something like this happens and continues to happen organically. This is not just about business decisions or knowledge. Normally there would be some urgency from people who are employed to steer the ship. There would be input from experts. There would be statements or something to show people you care. Movement of some kind. A change in policy or attitude compared to previous years. Top has intentionally removed anyone of that mindset and has, it seems, demanded to be the one in charge. He is not trying. Trying would be saying, ‘look you guys who know about football, sort this out and sort it out quick’. The charity match propaganda is further evidence that everything is about saving face and not about trying your best for the football club. It’s intentional. Stop sympathising with this guy, to treat this club with such a lack of care suggests he’s not a good bloke. He may look like an overgrown child but he’s a grown man with no respect.
  21. God, sounds awful. Exactly what we’ve been saying about people associated with this club putting us down at every opportunity while other clubs talk themselves up until the media accepts them as a big club. I definitely will not be watching.
  22. The thing that highlights why I hate these people so much is that you’ve got Forest fans, who no one had heard from in over 2 decades, all of a sudden giving it large on social media about being one of the biggest clubs in the country. There’s loads of them now. And we can’t say squat because we’re a total embarrassment. That’s what King Power have done to us. Even Cov are laughing at us. I go through long periods not feeling any emotion for us but seeing these other clubs being allowed to grow bollocks without being put in their place enrages me.
  23. I’m just so sick of adidas. Regardless of what else they do with the design seeing those 3 (probably gold) stripes on the sleeve is just going to annoy me. Those design restrictions ruin their entire catalogue.
  24. Blackpool were a good side going forward though, they just couldn’t defend. They may have got 70 points but the division was extremely strong that season. Cardiff had Bothroyd and Chopra up front and only finished 4th.
  25. They should only be allowed a drinks break if one of the teams has scored. These people need to be motivated.
