  4. I have no idea what padel is. However I've attended assaults on a few occasions where the victim is a suspected peado.
  5. Sadly the USA is the strongest force in world, politically, economically and militarily although China is a close second and will probably become greater than the USA, followed by India and Pakistan in the future. Countries that we in the west have for so long now, ignorantly and stupidly considered them to be backward and undeveloped with the population being made up of people that wash themselves and their laundry in rivers. We're going to be proven so wrong in the years ahead.
  6. I must admit, I misread the title as "paedo".

  11. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Desert_Song_(1953_film) A long winded and generally dull musical from the early 50's. Or maybe the Sand Dance: Wilson, Keppel and Betty - Wikipedia

  13. Interesting article from the much admired and very knowledgeable Jeremy Bowen on the Iran/Trump conflict: Jeremy Bowen: Trump is waging war based on instinct and it isn't working - BBC News
  14. Did Trump and his acolytes even consider the potential consequences on the wider world and the world economy of the illegal and unnegotiated attack on Iran?
  15. Kia Ora was the one I remember most. The tiny plastic straw that never quite reached the bottom of the carton resulting in lots of noisy slurping.
  16. It is 9 o'clockhorses. Apparently it's a reference to the days when there were outdoor toilets and the last collection of human and household waste was at 9pm by horse drawn carts. a warning is based on a Victorian era Leicester folk tale parents used to get children into bed and asleep by 9pm. Before drainage and waste disposal, night soil men came into the city to collect waste to use as manure on farmland – but a local bye-law stated they couldn’t come into town until after 9pm. The tale warned that children wandering the streets after 9pm would be taken away by the horses to work as labourers!
  17. It means a slap. Never happened, but the phrase was enough to stop me in my tracks.
  18. I've had all those directed at me by my mum when I was a kid. She was from the Scottish borders and she had many other admonishing phrases from that part of the country. "I'll take my hand off your face if you do that again", for example.
  19. If I did wrong or made a poor decision, my mum would say "that'll be the rock you'll perish on". That phrase could be so easily applied to our board at the moment.
  20. And when he did, I got a belting. I still can't remember why.
  21. "You'd better be home before the 9 horses come"
  22. When I first started playing computer games, you had to "download" the game from a cassette tape onto the game console. It took ages to load up and then you got this: Or this: I seem to remember I could make my own games using some method of programming.
