  1. Never were clean since the start of the Industrial Revolution tbh, or even before, I think.
  2. Because apparently some folks value aesthetics over functionality when it comes to football. I don't agree, but I guess it all comes down to opinion.
  3. I'd just do a straight swap of Jimmy for Leach, but that's me.
  4. Erudite. And it comes back to an argument that extends elsewhere too - aesthetics vs functionality. And everyone has different ideas on which they prefer in what situation and why. For me, in football, to have both is obviously the Holy Grail any team should aspire to, but the latter is more important than the former as not only is it more personally pleasing, it is easier to build the former on the latter.
  5. I dunno, election time (both UK and US) over in GC might give it a run for its money.
  6. Nah, watching the act of victory is a key part of the entertainment.
  7. I can see why other people think that way, but I don't. For me, the entertainment factor comes from beating the team in front of us, using whatever legal method works best. The result.
  8. Lots of that going round right now.
  9. Yes. Top level sport is about winning and that is the source of the "entertainment", nothing more, IMO.
  10. Apologies, should have been clearer that I was referring more to elements of the fanbase in general rather than you specifically when it comes to "clamouring", which is rather clearly happening. Again, I agree that adaptation should be required when we go up, but I think those elements of the fanbase (again) are being a little unwise by calling for it right now.
  11. There's no guarantee an "uglier" brand would be more successful when we get promoted either. Certainly adaptation will be required, but I really don't get the clamour for it now rather than when it is actually required (eg. to win games we might otherwise lose, which categorically isn't the case now).
  12. I know this is a Poe, but I actually think this isn't far away from what at least a fair few of the fanbase think when you get down to it. 4-4-2, direct, gerritFORWARD long ball is seen as "the English way", and so some people just want their team playing like that just because of that, even if it isn't as successful as other styles.
  13. The arguing the toss about it is extra ridiculous when by far the highest fighting price in terms of blood and lives to defeat the Axis powers was paid by the USSR anyway.
  14. Location matters from the POV that a radius of c.20 miles from Leicester is about my commute limit, but I'm also fine hybrid or WFH.
  15. Well, in my application experience I've seen nothing to disagree with this tbh.
  16. That wouldn't surprise me. I'll have to have a look at IBM. To clarify, I mean tech communication in terms of presenting tech ideas and concepts in an understandable fashion to a stakeholder, as well as creating documents and digital information doing the same thing.
  17. Speaking personally, I'd be fine with hybrid or in-office work, but again that does put limits based on location. Public sector is an interesting one - I actually look at civil service jobs regularly and there's lots of positions, but also appear to be lots of applicants.
  18. Science and tech communication, but I'd be OK with most things involving taking complex ideas and presenting them as easier ones, as well as analytical work. I'm guessing few or none of these roles are within a 20 mile radius of Leicester, then? TBH that would make sense.
  19. Interesting inverse perspective. Perhaps I'm limited by location, but the only fields I can see where there isn't a massive applicant:role ratio are retail/customer service and education.
  20. Three months, over 60 applications. One interview. Is the job market over here really this shit?

@Lionator With respect to your post elsewhere on war, is there any possible scenario where there's a direct fight between two of the big powers that doesn't end up at the last, very dark, possibility you describe? I honestly can't imagine one but I'd very much like to.
  22. Unless he's able to spin that as some kind of victory, then I don't think he could take the loss of face that would entail. So I don't think he does it in the first place and if he does pretty much all bets are off.
  23. On the one hand, it's sad to see grown adults reduced to knuckle-dragging hindbrain-driven cavemen. On the other hand, it does make for hugely entertaining TV.
  24. Oh, hell yes. A great book and it looks like a superb adaptation.
