  1. It is, but then they do take citing what's in there with legit sources seriously, most of the time.
  2. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-67928687 US space agency astronauts won't get to walk on the Moon again until September 2026 at the earliest. It represents a slip of a year in the previously targeted date for the return of humans to the lunar surface that was last achieved in 1972. Nasa says the delay to what's known as its Artemis III mission will enable further technology development. More schedule slip, great.
  3. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-67861954 "The year 2023 has been confirmed as the warmest on record, driven by human-caused climate change and boosted by the natural El Niño weather event. Last year was about 1.48C warmer than the long-term average before humans started burning large amounts of fossil fuels, the EU's climate service says. Almost every day since July has seen a new global air temperature high for the time of year, BBC analysis shows. Sea surface temperatures have also smashed previous highs." Hmmm. Good to be a consistent record breaker, huh?
  4. Obviously this is subjective, but for me that one fact is more significant than all of the others on that list put together (and as you say, there were other bad things, too). Shankly got it wrong - football isn't more important than life or death - or even injury. Such times should be remembered as a cautionary tale in most regards IMO, nothing more.
  5. Well yeah, you'd hope knowing about the importance of the dialectical method would come a little later tbh
  6. ...hence the word "sometimes". I've always been a more results-orientated rather than "entertainment"-orientated person anyway, with LCFC and any other sporting person/team I have an interest in, the winning is the important thing for me, doing it with style is great too but also secondary to the result.
  7. Wahey, a superb application of Godwin's Law right here.
  8. Interesting debate, that. Sometimes the function of the thing itself and how efficiently it completes a task has an elegance all of its own. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
  9. And this is reflected in the continuing popularity of figures like Trump, Bolsanaro and Yoon in South Korea. The ideology isn't going to go away - this is a continual thing.
  10. Not surprised. Regressive shilling is good for followers and the bottom line these days, Barton is just treading a well established path. Perhaps he might be encouraged to say what he said here directly to the parents of Brianna Ghey. Or any other person in that demographic who has suffered and died simply because of who they chose to be.
  11. Honestly, there have been times where I absolutely, unequivocally agree with this. The way that the very idea of truth is being subverted in a sea of "debate" and "opinion" is not only aggravating, but also flat out terrifying when it comes to getting in the way of progress on a lot of matters. So I can see why you'd think the whole idea of "civilized debate" is being made pretty redundant, and quite frankly I don't have much time for it on some issues where the truth is not only obvious, but also lives are at stake based on action regarding it. However, with all the above being said, if that idea is dead, then the only alternative I can see to bring about the necessary progress is conflict and the bringing about of consensus by direct oppression. And that doesn't really sound like a world any of us want to be part of. Perhaps something in between can be found.
  12. On the above: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-67877086 Flood-hit farmers are calling on the government to invest more in river defences in rural areas to protect UK food production. Thousands of acres of crops and productive farmland are now sitting under floodwater left by Storm Henk. The NFU says farmers who are expected to let fields of crops flood to protect towns should also be compensated. A government spokesperson said £221m was being spent on maintaining flood defences in 2023/24. Persistent wet weather over the Christmas period and New Year has caused further damage to farms that had already been hit by Storms Babet and Ciaran in the autumn. And yet again, this is just the tip of the iceberg.
  13. Sadly, it's Oklahoma, where the tree of law and order must be watered with the time and lives of the guilty and sometimes the innocent. Miscarriages of justice are mostly just seen as a fair price for maintaining such a "law and order" system... and so folks like this poor guy end up paying.
  14. And free exchange of opinion on matters like this should be encouraged - someone should be able to give the opinion Barton is a bigoted tw@t, someone should the likewise be able to call that person an arsehole for thinking Barton is a bigoted tw@t in the first place, because that Tweet isn't conclusive and can be viewed subjectively. No harm, no foul. The problem is (and this is something that is happening more and more these days) is people using the same arguments when it comes to matters of established fact. And it's so easy for one to bleed over into the other given the huge amount of digital platforms that exist today.
  15. Nah, apparently we've "solved" sexism in the media in this country and so Barton was clearly referring to those two women alike and not women in the profession in general. Apparently. (Pardon the barrage of sarcasm on this particular matter but I find it utterly ludicrous that someone can look at what has happened here and not see the man has a bias against women being involved in "his sport".)
  16. A shame, but really surprising? I don't think so.
  17. Oh, I don't know. He's just "telling it as it is" and "saying what a lot of people are thinking" about the topic. Apparently.
  18. Sounds interesting!
  19. Just finished this myself. Gary Oldman steals the show in every single scene he's in.
  20. .... or let's talk about mental health instead (just talk, no actual reform to make mental health resources more accessible, of course).
  21. Oh, without a doubt. That talk would challenge practically every ideology they believe as immoral.
  22. Au contraire, there's plenty to say from their standpoint. The problem is that it's all bullshit reinforcing the comfortable and profitable status quo, and very little actual doing.
  23. Lots of talk regarding floods right now, and they will only become more common. And all of that disruption caused by such flooding, including compensation to both homeowners, farmers and supply chains, is just one of the consequences.
  24. Yep. "Pray for the community in Perry, Iowa this morning," - Vivek Ramaswamy. As if that has ever had any positive practical utility; as opposed to, say, working on changing the law, which folks like Ramaswamy, in hock to the NRA, will never do.
  25. ...when it conclusively did come off the glove. Rohit also making comment about the pitch and double standards being in play regarding judging such pitches. I hope that isn't the case - both this pitch and some of the ones India have come up in recent past with should be rated as they are, which is unsuitable for playing Tests, given the physical evidence.
