With regard to private schools: I have nothing against going private for things if that’s how someone chooses to use their wealth, be that education, health, etc. What I don’t understand is why they (private schools) should have a tax break for it. Removing it seems to me simply like reverting to a fairer system.

A couple of further questions: 1. Was this person known to you? I’m wondering how they identified you to issue you the warning without it. 2. Can you accuse the person back?

Basically to forcibly deport people to any land that will have them without them being able to have any legal comeback on the matter. At least that’s the idea.

Jenrick would be worse than Sunak and Johnson. Granted it’d be hard to be worse than Truss.

I was genuinely interested what Cleverley might be like as party leader. Instead they’re now going to get Jenrick, who basically presents as Vaseline Farage.
-
I reckon the Conservative MPs assumed Cleverley would get through so hurled their votes at who would get through with him. ie They’ve c*cked up completely and now they’re stuffed for years.

Labour hiring Sue Gray was never a good look, for either Labour or Sue Gray. I’m surprised they never realised that.

Fair. I’ve always thought the 60’s would’ve been a great decade to grow up in terms of popular culture. So identifiable, with the young years of modern music and hope for the future.

I get that Dawn Butler is responding to vile white supremacists and will have had those specifically in mind. But what she’s posted there is pretty blatantly black supremacist.
-
I can imagine Swifties pining for it. Personally I never thought the 90’s had much worth pining for in terms of popular culture and I grew up in it.

Could be wrong as there’s a lot of fake news out there, but wasn’t Trump busy social media-ing some unrelated b*llocks during the debate, ie not watching it? Frankly I’d be more surprised if he was watching.

Yes and no. Some people benefit from a push back into the workplace, while for others it would make their situation worse. The problem, as always, is working out which is which.

Nothing much to unpack, I thought. It’s a lot easier to attack and push around a non-nuclear armed power.
-
That and I wonder whether Israel are doing it because they consider it their last chance to do so before Iran gets the bomb.
-
Whenever I hear anything from the Conservative leadership campaign, it feels like the question they’re asking is less “How do we get back into power?” and more “How do we continue to exist as a party?”.

That’ll show us. really makes you think, doesn’t it.

Bridgen’s become a really sad case. Unlike Trump, I think he actually believes it. He doesn’t live in the real world anymore.

I can’t help but think that the actions in recent years from Putin and now Netanyahu will lead to nuclear proliferation around the world. If the old order doesn’t or can’t keep the peace anymore, a new order will inevitably replace it. Not only that, but Putin seems to be set on inadvertently ushering it in. There are already strong rumours he’s helping Iran with their nuclear program as part payment for their missiles. If Iran gets nukes, Saudi Arabia won’t be far behind. South Korea and Japan might have to. If American support of Europe wanes, how long before Poland decides they need them. And Germany. Turkey wouldn’t want to be left out. Finland has a big military and long border with Russia, so how about them. Then, here’s a fun one: How about what remains of Ukraine.

I don’t have a set sign-off and I’d adjust according to the situation. ”Cheers” - Informal, friendly, we’re getting on. ”Many thanks” - Either literal or I’m expecting you to do the thing I just asked of you. ”Kind regards” - I’m going formal, either because I don’t know you and I’m going for professionalism or I’m deliberately removing the friendliness because you’re not performing to expected standards. Particularly note if I switch from “cheers” to “kind regards” within an email chain. ”Regards” - You are really testing me now. ”” - I disdain you and everything you stand for.
-
Not sure whether it’s good form to talk about individual tasks that people haven’t necessarily seen yet so minor apologies in advance, but the doorbell task was a bad sign. That had real potential and Rosie Jones was the only one who came out with any credit for me.

I think suspended sentence is right.

I wonder what would’ve happened if we’d let it rip. Obviously there would be more deaths. But how many more, and how would it have affected the economy and society as compared to lockdown? (Or our version of it)

As Daggers intimates, I imagine it was awful for extroverts. But for us introverts it was a nice break, with little to no social pressure. Not to mention a computer game I’d been waiting a long time for came out then so I was able to gorge, guilt-free, knowing that the voice in my head saying “you really should be doing something more productive” did not have a point and could happily shut the hell up for a couple of months.
