You also have to consider that it’s going to be a different plan for every game. We did to Southampton exactly what we did to them at their place. And they walked right into it again. You’re not going to get that against the likes of Millwall, Bristol City and Hull at home. Southampton reminded me very much of us a lot of the time last night when we’d struggle during games this season. Stuck to their philosophy, tried to keep it neat and tidy building from the back. It was a perfect game plan from Maresca, and everything that we seen last night suggests that also.

Amen to that. Come the end of the season, should we win the league, that’s all that will matter. No-one will or should be saying “yeah we won the league but we should’ve won it by more than we did”. The aim was promotion, and with 2 games left it’s looking like we should be champions. So let’s celebrate that. The championship is a ridiculously hard league to get out of, let alone first season back with all sorts of stuff happening off the pitch.

They had it at town hall square when we won the championship. You’d like to assume they already have or are in the process of getting plans in place for something.

You don’t always need the ball to control the game. We controlled the game out of possession. Certainly didn’t feel like a 30/70% game, either.

One of the most impressive things for me last night was that when we lost the ball we just tried to kick lumps out of them. We made 20 fouls and it really helped stopping them play.
