  1. Just doesn't have any sort of defensive awareness, it's bizarre. And given that he offers nothing going forward, I'm inclined to agree that he's not good enough.
  2. Sounds absolutely ridiculous! Won't be able to go to that one as I'm already away around that time, but I fancy doing one of these trips soon.
  3. I really hope we're on board with this. It will hopefully move quickly now that the ball appears to be rolling- is it right that the Football Spectators' Act won't need to be amended to proceed? That will save about 5 years of mind-numbing legal red tape.
  4. Always had talent, just didn't quite happen for him here. Didn't really fit the system we were looking to introduce- always seemed a bit of a 'luxury' player, and we were beginning to have some success with our flat-out defend from the front strategy. Good for him though, glad to see him doing well.
  5. How sad it is that I'm not even considering watching the game later. Competitive match, oldest rivalry in world football, I'm staying in and I still have zero interest. I think back to how much it meant growing up- glued to the TV at Euro 96, the celebrations and sense of injustice when Campbell 'scored' against Argentina in 98, running around like maniacs when Beckham scored vs Greece, the burning frustration on the occasions we went out to Portugal. I don't think I've felt anything for England since we lost to Brazil- yes man after yes man after yes man, trying to copy the Spain model of possession football when it's painfully obvious that we don't have the personnel to make it effective, no urgency in our play. I thought Allardyce would turn things around, but as soon as he announced Rooney as his captain, that went out of the window.
  6. I think this may have some legs. The PL seem to have been doing some thinking about how they can improve atmospheres and the appearance of fans on the TV, going by the new rules they are bringing in about away fans needing to be pitchside- they obviously want fans standing to be shown across the world. We're hopefully entering a new era. Just imagine an all-standing kop....
  7. Barry hayles on the bench for Chesham at Peterborough, 44 years young.
  8. I'm not sure we ever were a tinpot shit club, but we have certainly underachieved throughout our history. Hopefully we can continue to build- maybe the title will mean we can establish ourselves as a more consistent top flight outfit and by 2040, we will have more than just 2016 to brag about.
  9. Surely safe standing would be a good way to counteract these issues- make a large safe standing section a good distance from the away fans, invite everyone who wants to stand to relocate there, then you could take more of a stance against the ones left standing and causing trouble near the away fans. It wouldn't solve the problems they are having, because they appear to have a large number of absolute knobheads for fans, but it could help. People stand at the football up and down the country every week, whether the authorities like it or not. And the fact is, it's not particularly safe to be jumping around celebrating (everyone does that, even if they don't stand for the full game) when there's plastic seats around you to trip over. Safe standing is the logical choice, and the sooner it's implemented, the better. English football is set in its ways with all-seater grounds, but it will happen eventually.
  10. That we're on our way chant sounds excellent, real potential if it gets going fully- might take a while though, I'm still nowhere near working out the words or the full tune On another note, based on what I heard from the Copenhagen fans before the game, I Don't Like Mondays makes a surprisingly good football song!
  11. Still young, and there is plenty of work to be done to his all round game before he's at the level we need him to be at right now. Being hung out to dry by Ranieri's persistence in 4-4-2 against the big sides though. Could do a job screening the back 4 in a midfield 3.
  12. It's a thoroughly enjoyable read, in my eyes. I like the fact that Spurs fans are still so cut up about not being able to catch us that they are writing pieces like this. It's like when we won it last season; once watching the highlights got a bit tiresome, I spent some time online reading their comments. I think they genuinely believed they were the best side in the league, until they started playing like Grimsby.
  13. Excellent news, if true. In my opinion, those families being against it probably swayed a lot of people who didn't know what safe standing was, and gave those opposing it some easy ammo. With their blessing, campaigners will be able to distance it from Hillsborough as much as they can.
  14. That's the problem it has faced from the start- educating people on the benefits, and reassuring people that there are no negatives. However, a lot of the people who matter in the decision making are not willing to see the other side of the coin. It's the easy option for a politician to just dismiss it as "dangerous, remember Hillsborough?" and not put their time and effort in. The one I've never understood though- the families of the Hillsborough disaster are against it. Surely the whole premise of their campaign was that it was the police's fault for letting too many people into the same section of the ground. I would have thought that better policing/ticketing in the modern era, coupled with there being a reinforced rail in front of every row to prevent surges, would make them see it differently.
  15. I'm sure they would be able to position it so it wouldn't affect peoples' views. As for the people who want to sit who would fall within that area, I reckon there would be enough demand for the standing section for them to be relocated fairly easily.
  16. I've just been thinking about how much better it would be to visit away grounds and actually be confronted with an atmosphere... If we do it, would be amazing to have the whole corner of SK1. As an aside, us supporters of the safe standing movement really have to take our hats off to the Green Brigade- I can't stand Celtic, but that corner of their ground is bouncing every minute of every game, and there have been no reports of related trouble. Exemplary so far, really demonstrating the point.
  17. I used to find it funny, but it's chipped away at me over the years. Now just reminds me of that god awful era when the football was so boring, they had to bring it in the appeal to the kids What happened to the version they used to play at Filbert Street?
  18. Next time the atmosphere's that flat, I'll probably head up to stand with Union FS- do stewards object to people standing in the aisle back there?
  19. Please, just bin off the S Club 7 Post Horn Gallop. It's an absolute abomination.
  20. Closest they will ever get to another title.
  21. Nobody under the age of 40 will remember them being a good side. They're a funny bunch- they seem to mock Leicester fans who still feel something towards the historic Leicester/Nottingham rivalry, then claim their rivalry with Liverpool still exists. Weirdos.
  22. I know what you're saying, and agree that if the game has gone the atmosphere is usually flat. But we've developed a great habit over the past couple of years- getting up and roaring the team back to the centre when we concede, then outsinging the celebrating away fans. You can't say it doesn't have an effect, look how many times we've scored quickfire equalisers! Not a huge fan of the clappers either, but it ain't a coincidence that we've lost 2 league games at home since we've had the noisiest ground in the country... Fans can make a difference, making sure we're as loud as we can be can give the team an edge.
  23. That's my point- we're going to lose games, as we will every season. We need to make sure that the team know we're right behind them, no matter what (as long as they're putting a shift in, which we know this lot will). It shouldn't take having a title-winning side to make some noise, let's enjoy ourselves!
  24. Need to be at the top of our game this week. Like the team, we'll need to go back to basics- singing for 90 minutes no matter what the score is. There's no pressure like at the end of last season, so we should be able to enjoy making a racket without having to be nervous about dropping points in a title race. Am I right in thinking there's a tifo? They always help to ramp it up a bit.
  25. I wouldn't put Sutton in that category- he didn't think we would win it until quite a late stage, but I wouldn't say it was out of spite or jealousy. I just think he saw the similarities between ourselves and his Norwich side who fell away and expected it to happen again. Mills and Crooks, on the other hand... How they are paid to be pundits I'll never know. They absolutely hated us winning it, and they couldn't keep themselves from showing it. They both just spout elitist nonsense, and still can't get their thick heads around the fact that we ended up beating all of the big clubs to it. Mills' comments about Vardy and Mahrez to Arsenal were ridiculous also, saying they should have walked there. No idea where his big club bias comes from either, he was a half rate player who spent the bulk of his career at middling clubs.
