I found that JJ’s defensive technique is to wait for a nudge and fall down. If Thomas and JJ had half a brain and made the effort, when they saw the wingers being closed down and doubled up on they could’ve simply ran into the space ahead of them and dragged players away rather than standing back, watching and waiting for the ball to come back so it can be passed backwards. It’s worrying that a caveman like me can see this a mile off yet the players and manager can’t or can’t be bothered to try this simple tactic called a 1-2.

Any half decent manager would’ve got Ayew and JJ to create an overlap and make a simple 1-2. He was happy to watch Fatawu get destroyed and fouled constantly by a player doing the basics well, while at the same time watching Ayew hog the ball and fall over and JJ stand still or disappear after passing to Fatawu at the halfway line. half decent team and manager and he is in every time.
