Bournemouth (H) Pre match thread (05.10.24, 3pm)

Same team, same mistakes, same tactics and in game management. I’m expecting him to drop Skipp or Buonanotte to shoehorn Ndidi and Ayew up top. JJ & VK will be constantly out of position leaving space for crosses to come in. If he plays an attacking team from the start with Winks or Skipp getting ball forward quickly for Mav/Fac/Fatawu then we can get something from this. -
JJ scoring will just strengthen his decision to play him and ignore the poor defending and poor tactics causing issues at the back. The same with Ndidi at Palace.

Let’s see where Cooper tries to shoehorn him in next game. He’ll probably be dropped for being too attacking. We need him, Mav & Fatawu attacking quickly together. It won’t happen as he’ll play Ndidi and Ayew in there to stink it out -
Ndidi is battered after 60 mins but he runs him ragged. Seeing Ayew come in for our standout player, to then see that terrible first touch with no pressure and that being our last clear chance to attack.
-
But did the exact same thing today which shows that’s it’s a tactic from Cooper that he thinks will work. We should’ve taken all 3 at Palace,. He’s too scared to make subs to change the game while there is time. All his subs seem like an empty gesture rather than a tactical choice.

Same mistakes, same set up, same in game management, same cowardice to make subs early on to change the energy of the game. The tactics of absorbing the pressure and having the dms just standing on the edge of the box to make it crowded while JJ and VK get skinned constantly is insane. -

Again too scared to make changes and then it’s Ayew. If he made all those subs at the same time at 70 mins we might have had more of a chance by injecting some energy into the game. Sit back and let Arsenal walk into the box, no one pressing or doubling up. He plays them defensive yet no one seems to do any defending. Great that JJ got into attacking positions but that doesn’t negate his poor defending again All game, every game he leaves space for the winger and backs off allowing them to cross. -

Every game Justin tucks in and leaves so much space, then he has to react. Watch his positioning. That is Cooper telling him or JJ is doing that. Either way the goals are coming from there and he isn’t identifying it. -

Justin just let’s him stroll into the box and pass, no initial press or attempt to tackle him. -

He’s setting them up to not attempt to attack yet at the same time unable to defend and ripped open by leaving so much space. -

All season JJ is leaving space putting us under pressure and conceding. Nothing will change until we get rid of Cooper and bench Justin. -

And after 10 attacks already Cooper doesn’t think it would help to change it. -

He’s setting them up to not attack. Not sure about the defence part as JJ is nowhere to be seen. -

So we are parking the bus for the whole game yet JJ and VK are tucking in to leave space. -
Until Ndidi gets the ball then it becomes 1/8th.
-
Ndidi to carry the ball well up the pitch again before the inevitable brain shut down when he has to decide which of the unmarked players to pass to before he does nothing and loses it.
-
Half the goals in 5 games than Ayew got in 38 last season. Mav works hard and often does too much as he’s on his own because of the wrong players Cooper picks. He gets doubled up in and still makes things happen. I genuinely don’t think Cooper sees that having two tricky wingers on that can shoot from outside the box is a good thing. I want to see a front 4 of Vardy, Fatawu, Mav and Facundo just going for it from the start.
-
So setting us up exactly as every other game. I’m expecting the subs to be the same. Single like for like subs with no change to tactics and that’s 15 mins after Arteta has brought 3 on at the same time.
-
The problem with Ayew is whatever role he plays he just hogs the ball and falls over. I’ve not seen anything otherwise from him so far. Against Palace when he should’ve been subbed, I remember him picking the ball up on the right wing, turning inwards and running all the way to the left wing and losing the ball by falling over to try and win a foul. That move could be a description of his career. I just see him as weakening those around him. He won’t bring the wingers and attackers into play and he won’t turn half chances into goals like Vardy can.
-
Such a disconnect between his words in interviews and the match. I think he can’t actually see the problems. A midfield of DMs expected to play attacking football, Ayew a winger who falls over after hogging the ball and JJ who gets a nose bleed just thinking about passing the ball forwards. And all this against a 39 year old LB in the pouring rain
-
Same team, same tactics, same mistakes, same lack of in game management, same excuses.
-
This is worrying. Hopefully, if we get a new manager this will shut down. On a free he would be ok, and that’s only as a back up to Vardy. For cash and now it’s at the expense of Fatawu then surely this will be an issue with the team. He adds nothing to the team other than holding onto the ball for too long and falling over.
-
This is what I think. The same with Vestergaard. The Danes are very blunt without meaning to be as well. The probably just told him the truth and he can’t process it as constructive criticism.
-
He is just not very good at his job. Competence breeds confidence. The way he always has an excuse but it’s never the reason we are all seeing. I thought he was being too scared to make wholesale changes, hence the like for like subs. Now I think he just doesn’t realise what the problem is to fix. Putting Ayew, a player who has never excelled and peaked years ago at Palace, against a 39 year old Young sums him up as a manager. Any other manager would double up the pressure and try and get him carded which would leave gaps for other players to exploit. I’ve worked with plenty of excuse makers, they aren’t good at their job but it’s never their fault as they were not smart enough to understand the issue.
