Woke up, ran a 1:53 Half Marathon at my zone 2/3 easy/mod pace. Bodes well for Leicester Half in 8 weeks when I want to run sub 1:40. Oh, ended up getting the Nike Vomero Plus in the end for easy/Long runs. Absolute beast of a shoe, could have carried on running forever this morning.

Yeh the Nova 5s are such an oddity. Only had one pair, first 200K I loved them, got to 300K and they were full on done, dead, awful. I've read a lot of similar and polarised views, reckon it has to be a quality control issue. RE. Carbon Plates - I've done my fastest runs by far in Vaporfly 4s but there must be some placebo effect thrown in there too I reckon. Been looking at the New Balance 1080 v15s, they sound like what I need but I've zero experience with NB and the colourways stink (I know that's only minor).

I've got the Saucony Endorphin Azuras which have been raved about all year, first they said it was an evo SL killer, loads of people listing it as their shoes of the year. I've done 200K in it and i think it's shit. It's definitely not a quick shoe for me, and it's too firm for long runs/zone 2. Don;t understand the hype. First few weeks I ran in them I thought yeh these seem alright, but was expecting them to break in etc. Just a really dull, slow, cumbersome run for me.

I need a proper long run, comfortable, soft, bouncy shoe. Struggling with foot/leg fatigue at the 17K mark where I used to be comfortably running 20+. My Nobablast 5s died early Saucony Azuras ive fallen out with - too firm for long runs, not quick enough for tempo Still love my Addi Evo SLs and can go long in them but mainly use for daily and tempo Nike Vaporfly 4 as my raceday shoe. I dont fancy the new Novablast 6s after the 5s died. Thinking maybe a Nike Vomero Plus or similar. Any suggestions?

Oh sure, no way on earth im saying they all are, im just saying in terms of how certain crime groups operate, these are their general go to in terms of the ones that are illegal. Cash in hand pop up business like these are always going to be the ideal route to Launder money and can also be hidden in plain site by blending in with the vast majority of similar law abiding shops. However, I do know that a significant proportion of the nail bars in Leicester City centre are linked with Organised Crime and one particular group. Can't speak for anything in the rest of the county.

Saw this come up in the Gen News thread which I can't post in, so @Trav Le Bleu @Narborough Road Fox @davieG the Nail Bars in Leicester are trading legitimately but are originally put in place as a front for Vietnamese money laundering - they run the large majority of the cannabis trade, both in farming and selling for Leicester. Just wanted to clear that up (can't blame the Turks/Albanians/Romanians for everything). The Heroin trade in Leicester is largely run by a well know Afghan syndicate with Turkish input. Albanians and Slovaks largely run the sex trade, Romanians do mainly illegal imports and sale of vape/tobacco etc. Indian Mafia have a big hold on certain parts of the city, for obvious reasons though.

Oh 100% - if you entered a triathlon on a mountain bike you'd be left in the dust within seconds. A road bike is a necessity, in 2026 a full Carbon Fibre road bike is probably a necessity. I used to race road bikes but never done a triathlon. The keys to road bike racing is weight. The lightest bike is the fastest bike, steel and aluminium are basically extinct now in the racing world. Back when I raced you had to spend a literal shed load for a Carbon bike but that's not necessarily the case now. Key thing is you need a light road bike - anything else is suicide, even if you're doing it for fun rather than times, you would be sucking every ounce of joy out of it trying to do it on anything other than a proper road bike, it would be such a hard, hard slog.

If you want fast times/be competitive then you'll have to lob money at a bike. If you're doing it just for fun, a decent second hand road bike or a discounted new bike for the £700-1000 mark is probably plenty.

I always run quicker at a Parkrun - I guess it's that chasing mentality, the same as I will always run a competitive 10K or Half Marathon quicker than running the same distance flat-out on my own, so I'm hoping that plus 5 more weeks of speed/interval/fartlek sessions I'll be able to manage it.

Ran a 5K pb of 20:54 yesterday morning, hoping to break Sub-20 at the end of August at one parkrun or another and then keep some regular speed sessions/Fartleks in my weekly training in the run up to Leicester Half which I'm aiming for around 1:35 - 1:38 ish (current PB 1:43:30). That will be my season pretty much done, keep the mileage ticking off over autumn and winter and then Gloucester half in March. I've suffered on mileage in the last month or so due to heat which really hits hard being a type 1 diabetic.

What ive found most interesting about the world cup so far is that Wayne Rooney genuinely comes across as quite tactically astute - so why is he such a shit manager?
