  1. I agree with you there. The only positive I can find on this occasion is that Reform will get more votes than the greens but probably seats. I do accept that from a democratic point of view, that is absurd.
  2. The Conservative Party fullthroated defence of the economic model that they have championed since 1979 is completely at odds with genuine conservative values. I'll give you some examples. The 80s saw major deindustrialisation of the UK. Steelworks closed, coal mines closed, and thousands of people were put onto the scrapheap. This dessimated communities, caused serious social unrest and left us with regional inequality that we're still living with. They failed to conserve community. They privatised water and deregulated the industry. This has led to water companies not investing in vital infrastructure, resulting in them dumping shocking amounts of raw sewage into our waterways. Subsequently, this has meant that people cannot use the waterways for leisure activities and wildlife has been destroyed while we are expected to be paying higher water bills. They have failed to conserve british wildlife, the environment and our freedom to enjoy the waterways. They sold off Royal Mail to a foreign billionaire. This is a British institution with 500 years of heritage and even has the crown on it. This us a deeply unpatriotic act. As a result, they are prioritising parcel deliveries over letters that's where the money is. Some people are going weeks without receiving their mail.
  3. As a side point, I think the Green Party will get their highest number of votes in history. They got over 1 million votes in 2015, which is their highest number to date. I wouldn't be surprised if they get over 1.5.million votes this time around. They currently have one seat in the commons and they could pick up one or two more. I see this as a good thing.
  4. I'm almost 30 and work full-time in a job that requires university education, and I've certainly gotten more left-wing over the past few years.
  5. As insane as it sounds, the Conservative Party are that finished as a political force that after this election they may as well go for broke and campaign on holding a referendum on re-joining the EU. Keir Starmer's current stance is 'make Brexit work'. If the Tories were to beat him to the punch with that one, they could use it as a stick to beat him with. It's just on thing they could do to try and win back voters who aren't in their 60s/70s. It seems inconceivable now but the Conservative Party used to be generally quite pro-Europe. Granted, they've had vocal Eurosceptics in the party for decades but there were plenty of high profile pro-Europe Tories (John Major, Ken Clarke, Michael Heseltine, Chris Patten, Ted Heath, Geoffrey Howe etc.). Even Thatcher was a champion of the single market, she just hated the political side of the European Community and was ultimately concerned about the idea of a 'federal Europe'.
  6. Millennials, the oldest of which are now in the early forties, are actually getting more left-wing with age! Boomers, who benefitted from policies such as right to buy during the Thatcher, Major and Blair years have seen their asset prices increase exponentially, whereas their oldest children can't get on the property ladder and are paying extortionate rents to private landlords and seeing their bills increase all while energy companies are making record profits. It's not difficult to understand why this is happening. Older people think that the generations have followed them are 'lazy' or that they've undergone some sort of indoctrination through higher education, when in truth the political outlook of the younger generations is just as a result of their material conditions.
  7. I think many of us can agree that the word 'legend' is thrown about too loosely. Who in our history do you think is worthy of the title? It's a pretty high bar for me. For instance, I don't consider all of the title winning team legends. Some will find that strange, but the club needs to be relatively exclusive.
  8. To be fair he managed to make Patrick Bamford look like a footballer. Imagine if he could do that with Daka.
  9. You know what, we're probably going to go down, so we may as well do it in the most chaotic fashion possible. At least none of us would be bored watching it.
  10. I can't see any managers not wanting him. He's twenty years-old just had a good season in the championship and his workrate defensively is exceptional. He's still rough around the edges but any manager eould want himself an option at least.
  11. In fact, Nuno has a better points per game ratio than Cooper across both seasons Cooper was in the Premier League. He objectively has done better than Cooper as Forest manager in the premier league.
  12. If we're looking at the season just gone, then that's simply not true. Cooper: 17 league games 3 wins 5 draws 8 defeats 14 points 0.82 ppg Nuno: 21 league games 6 wins 4 draws 11 defeats 22 points 1.05 ppg Nuno didn't pull up any trees (no pun intended) but they picked up after he came in.
  13. That's really not the point. It's funny that was your takeaway. The point was that he's achieved two things that Corberan hasn't, getting a team promoted and keeping a team in the Premier League. It's just a funny observation. Even despite that I'd prefer Corberan to Cooper.
  14. It's actually funny how we're all (myself included) very dismissive of Steve Cooper, yet are fawning over Carlos Corberan, who literally lost to Steve Cooper in the play-off final to get promoted to the premier league. Granted, there were two shocking refereeing decisions in that game, but it's still funny. He's also kept a team in the Premier league, something that Corberan hasn't done. I suppose the unknown is more appealing to us with Corberan. We don't know how Corberan's football would fare in the premier league. Cooper's football at the end with Forest was diabolical and even in the season where he kept Forest up, many of their fans felt he was out if his depth at this level from a tactical perspective and that it was pure gusto that got them over the line.
  15. Worth noting that he only actually managed 5 league games at Olympiacos. In those five games they won two, drew two and lost one. They're probably the biggest club in Greece and it's below par but it's not totally shameful and it's still only five games. His overall record at Olympiacos looks worse because they were dreadful in Europe, but their results in the Europa League group stages were still poor that season after he'd left.
  16. Done a fantastic job overall but personal and potentially controversial opinion: he underachieved last season at Cov in the league with that squad. They have better players than West Brom and Norwich, both finished above them.
  17. Not even the slightest bit arsed that Maresca is going.
  18. If we're getting £8-10million for Maresca, then I think we can chance our arm with trying to attract a manager currently in work. If we were to drop £4-5 million at West Brom's feet for Corberan, would they turn it down? That's a lot of money for a championship club no longer receiving parachute payments, especially if we manage to turn his head.
  19. Also sacked by Hull having missed out on the play-offs with a better team than both Norwich and West Brom. No thank you.
  20. I'd be surprised if the compensation package required to get him out of West Brom will be anywhere near what we will be receiving for Maresca leaving. If we can buy him out of his contract for say £4million, then we still end up £4 million in the black.
  21. Their away game at Southampton was bad, I'll give you that. Southampton do ultimately have much better players than West Brom though, it has to be said. I'm being realistic. We won't be able to take a manager from another premier league club. In terms of premier league experience, Potter won't come to us in our current predicament. Even if he did, I think he'd relegate us. Where he's done well in the past, he's had time to build. I'd actually take Moyes at this point. He's experienced and he's quite a shrewd operator in the transfer market. However, I don't think the club will go for him. It's clear they want a modern possession-based manager. What other viable options are there with premier league experience? Gerard? No thanks. Lampard? No thanks. Steve Cooper? Could do worse but his football towards the end at Forest was hideous. Rob Edwards? Not convinced.
  22. Corberan overachieved at both Huddersfield and West Brom in my opinion. He got a poor Huddersfield side to within a couple of terrible refereeing decisions of the premier league, took over at West Brom when they were in and around the relegation zone and got them into the playoffs the following season with tight financial restrictions. He's a modern but pragmatic manager and his teams can play a bit too. What I really like about him is that his teams are good at set pieces. Our conversion rate from set pieces was pitiful this season, especially when you consider that we've got a 6ft7 centre back. I'm confident he'd come to us. OK, the points deduction is a tough sell but if he makes a decent fist of keeping us up and we still go down, his stock will still be relatively high. He's the one.
  23. This is the best possible way for us to lose a manager. He would have left on pretty good terms, the new manager should get a full preseason and won't be taking over a squad that are losing every week and are low on confidence and we will receive £8 million in compensation for a manager who is unproven at the level of football that we will be playing at.
  24. I'm not too fussed if he goes to be honest. He did what was asked of him here, but we were unconvincing for many parts of the season, even when we were winning. Personally I think if we were to Carlos Corberan in he'd give us a better chance of staying up.
