Has Martin turned the corner and we should support him?

AI slop is the pits. Get it binned. -
Wednesday fans appear to be losing patience with their manager.

Unfortunately, we got off to such a bad start that we need to be almost flawless over the coming weekd to get us back into contention for the automatic promotion race. We've picked up 10 points from our last 5 games and we're only 10th! -
Really weird to think that our ppg over the past 5 games has been 2.0 despite horrendous results against Barnsley and Peterborough.

Looked pretty clunky at times tonight but took his goal well. After having to watch us play with Ayew and Daka last season, it's just nice seeing us play with an actual centre forward. He should be able to score more than 20 league goals with us this season. -
Genuinely, it was closer to an 8-0 than a 4-0 game in terms of our dominance. The only disappointment is that we didn't score more. We missed good chances, but also their goalkeeper was far and away their best player.
-
We've left goals out there. We should be even further ahead. These have been very poor. However, both in terms of our shape and our approach, we look so much more balanced. We're not playing it around the back in such high risk areas and we have gotten the ball forward quicker and with more purpose whilst still dominating posession. Russell has got a long way to go to win me back, but this is definitely more positive.

<25% win rate with St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership and Stevenage in League One would be bad enough, let alone Rangers and Leicester!
-
Nor do I give a shit about him being a vegan Buddhist with long hair. I just want him to win some games.
-
I'll reiterate that I don't actually hate him. I just want Leicester to win some games of football, and under him we haven't won enough.
-
Why is Russell so hated? Also 'Leicester City...now find themselves struggling in League One.' Hardly a mystery.
-
What you have successfully argued is that Brighton are well run and we're not. I didn't need to be convinced of that. I was just presenting contrary evidence to the idea that you can't be successful by having significantly more possession than the opposition.
-
I kinda want Man City to get away it. Otherwise we're going to have to watch this Arsenal team run away with the league again whilst playing a truly rancid brand of football.
-
Brighton have averaged 60% possession this season and are third in the premier league. Having more possession than the opposition isn't in itself a play style. There are many different ways of playing that involve having more of the ball than the opposition. I do think that Russell Martin's brand of football is largely ineffective though.

We definitely saw a change in approach against Doncaster. There was a change in formation and there was definitely not as much emphasis on playing the ball around the back, particularly between the goalkeeper and the central defenders. We even saw the keeper going long from goal kicks. It wasn't a great performance but we still had plenty of opportunities to have scored more goals. The approach was certainly more pragmatic, but we still give away many chances. It seems to me that he just knew that he had to win and that him having to abandon some of his principles to do that is very telling. It will be typical if we go on a 4/5 game winning run being more pragmatic and then he starts to feel comfortable and reverts back to type. In the championship playoffs he went to West Brom with a back 5 and got a 0-0 draw and then beat them comfortably at home in the return leg and then won a play-off final against Leeds with <40% possession and then reverted back to type once they were promoted.

Always think it's mad that no one ever mentions Luis Enrique when discussing the greatest managers of all time.
-
PSG might be the best team I've seen in my lifetime. It's between them and Guardiola's Barcelona.
-
This is so true. The comparison is quite a lazy one. Liverpool under Klopp, for example, had more possession than the opposition in the vast majority of games. Atletico Madrid dominate possession in most of their La Liga games and it doesn't look anything like how we're playing either.
-
Kinda my point.
-
I pinned all of my hopes on the one decent season he's had in his entire managerial career. Even then he went up via the play-offs with a team that should have finished on more than 90 points and properly challenged for automatics.
-
We should have beaten them away towards the end of last season. That's how bad they were.
-
He had to get off to a very good start to win a lot of people over i.e. win 5 or more of his first 8 league games, but he's gotten off to a dreadful start.

A couple of mine: - Goals where it is a low shot and the ball rolls all the way up the net to the roof of the goal. - This one is a dying breed, but football grounds that are surrounded by terrace housing, especially when they are old grounds where the stands are different. Think Maine Road, Filbert Street, Goodison Park, Highbury, Highfield Road etc. -
Dyche is on record saying he's mates with Rudkin.
