But clubs don't directly bid against each other like in an auction. Football just doesn't work like that. You either make an acceptable offer or you don't.

Bidding wars don't really exist in football. Each interested club will have their own set valuation of what they think the player is worth and they'll simply move on to their next target if that is exceeded.

We, on the other hand, are negotiating from a position of weakness, due to us being relegated and constantly flirting with PSR difficulties. Kelleher had one-year left on his Liverpool deal and went to Brentford for £17m, so I think Mads, with 3-years left, will go for a fee somewhere in the middle of Kelleher and Petrovic. About £20-21m.
