Development/Youth Squads 2024/2025 Thread - U18/U21

Monga is a very exciting prospect, considering his age. -
Board won't act until: Dressing room is lost (but he plays Vardy when fit so has him on board). Long run of consecutive defeats (which we might have started on). We fall into the bottom three.

Back in the day, it used to be a good place to get second hand crombies and similar.

I guess there aren't many better options out there for us that we can afford or would come to us. -

He's a strange character all round. One incredible, record breaking innings and then very little else. Was that a lucky one off or does he not apply himself enough to develop his talent? -

He still averages 30 with the bat which is not bad for someone who has just turned 20. Only Rishi and just about Hill average above him in the current XL He just needs more games and time and in all honesty playing in a side that had more players performing would take the pressure off him a bit. A 20 year old shouldn't have to be a match winner with bat and ball. -

Just shows what an impact Handscomb had on the side, at least he'll be back next year. The Hundred has destroyed Rishi as well. He's been in woeful form since he came back. I assume Salisbury is off as he's not in this side, despite loads of second xl wickets. -

Anyone know what the club statement is about, referring to online comments? -

Yes it isn't that different. You'll still get good attendances for T20 games, quarter finals in good weather etc, but championship was always sparsely attended. So much so that players used to sit around the ground without ever being bothered much - don't know if they still do. I remember even seeing Gerry Taggart and Matt Elliot down there drinking all day. ECB payments will be a lot higher than before, but player costs will of soared. Travel, wages, accomodation, medical, academy etc. If you read Simon Hughes' account of being a player in the 70s and 80s, it's very telling how amateurish the whole set up and what a limited budget there was. -

Interesting conversation, but I don't think he's able to justify that big increase in membership prices. If anything membership numbers will go down, you are fighting a losing game there, both with schedules and Father Time. What he doesn't mention is that football and rugby are generally scheduled at weekends and evenings, when most people have time off work. Why would you pay more for something that is increasingly scheduled on the margins of the season and worst weather and at times everyone is least available to go watch. Sounds like the streaming paywall has been a failed experiment, but the lesson there is don't launch something until you have the right product. Things I've heard about him have been very negative around the game in Leicestershire and he does seem a bit amateur and lacking in proper research. Much as I feel Ian Holland is a good signing, he is hardly indicative of "the kind of calibre of player we are now attracting". He's still a 33 year-old (nearly 34) journeyman USA international - batting ave 26/bowling ave 31, shame they aren't the other way round. -

Good signings and brings experience that we need. Which players are out of contract this season? Is it Evans, Swindells, Walker and Salisbury? Has Budinger got another year left? Lot of great young talent at the club now. Madan got runs in the current second XL game. Jigar Naik doing a good job. -

If he's not going to play then needs to be with us now. Not played enough cricket in the last 12 months, leg spinning takes years to perfect. -

lack of urgency to create anything after the goal was shocking. A point was still there to be had. -

I think you are about right. Just been listening to TMS during the lunch break and they were talking about what happens to non-hundred counties when this investment money that will be distributed runs out. They said the ECB wants to see a sustainability plan on how they'll use the money. So for example, Worcestershire will use the money for a new ground. Basically, they have one go at getting it right and using the money well. -

You may want to make an appointment with your GP. Sounds like you could be feeling depressed. Don't worry about the next 40 years, set yourself some short term aims. I remember going through a break-up in my late 20s and feeling devastated - I was living in a town (Luton, enough to send anyone over the edge) I didn't want to be in and I was in debt. So I just tried to sort myself out with what I could control: I moved to a cheaper place elsewhere and I set myself very strict spending targets to get rid of my debt; joined the gym; found another job; started saving for a house deposit once debt was cleared. I didn't have much fun for a year, but it really helped me focus and as things started to change it made me feel better about myself.

That's an outrageous increase. This is how they are going to reduce losses for next season. 2000 season tickets x that initial £60 increase is £120,000, even without the extra £50 after October 1st. They are just trying to sponge the loyal fanbase. -

That's true. Having the back-to-backs definitely exposes the women's game to more fans. It is rather like a music support act as the after work crowd swells everything considerably for the second game. I think the first year, I picked my son from school, got the train to St Pancras and then to Lords just in time for the second game. Since then all start in the school holidays, so not such an issue, but you have to have quite an engaged child to sit through two games of cricket - which mine aren't! Also they enjoy watching at night under lights. Was the first time my son saw someone vomit in the toilet!
